Article in today's New York Post... Looks like both options for 2 WTC are still possible, with BIG's the favorite. Gives some hope for Foster's 2 WTC!

Silverstein Properties leaning towards BIG 2 WTC design

By Lois Weiss

May 4, 2016 | 1:16am

Silverstein Properties now has two, 3 million square-foot options for a new 2 World Trade Center tower, and we’ve now learned the developer is leaning towards the BIG one.

The first was the original Norman Foster design proposed after the site’s master plan was created. It has distinctive lighted diamonds on its slanted top.

The other is the Bjarke Ingels Group, aka BIG, design that was created to house 20th Century Fox and News Corp, The Post’s parent. But the decision to nix the move earlier this year left the two designs in hand.

The BIG building has staggered, planted terraces facing the east but also makes it appear to be facing away from the 9/11 Memorial Plaza.

Silverstein’s Chairman, Larry Silverstein, insisted that the BIG design shouldn’t be turned around, as I’ve always thought, and that it works “very well” with its current sitting.

“[The top of] Two was a distinguishing feature of Norman Foster’s design,” Silverstein said. “Opposed to what Bjarke Ingels proposed. We can go in either direction. Which way, we are not sure yet.”

But Silverstein added, “The probabilities are, and knowing the users we are talking to today, it will come down to the Bjarke Ingels.”

Other sources revealed those “users” grazing around the WTC campfire include both BlackRock and JPMorganChase, which, with at least 1 million square-foot requirements, are naturally also kicking bricks at Hudson Yards, Manhattan West and other future market opportunities.

Interesting! NY.Curbed is painting a different picture:

Bjarke Ingels Design Will Likely Remain the Choice for 2 World Trade Center
http://ny.curbed.com/2016/5/4/115905...d-trade-center

Quote:
[...]Silverstein Properties, have hinted that they are likely to stick with the Ingels design while marketing it to prospective tenants, the New York Post reports.

Those prospective tenants are rumored to be JP Morgan & Chase, and BlackRock, according to the Post. Larry Silverstein, the head of the Silverstein Properties told the Post that once News Corp pulled out, their firm had the option of going with Ingels' design or a previously proposed Norman Foster design.

However based on the tenants Silverstein spoke with, Ingels' design is the likely choice, and a representative for Silverstein confirmed to Curbed that the firm "expects to use the Bjarke Ingels design for 2 WTC."

All the news outlets I am reading, is saying that Foster Design is the heavily favored one , I think Curbed is off the rails with this one , let's hope so ?

That building above is literally the ugliest building I have ever seen, I makes BIGS's 2 WTC design actually look impressive and aesthetically appealing.

I still think the Foster design fits in best with the other 3 towers.

foster would have been the better choice cause it preserves the straight outline. but the intention is weak, its like a reaction to 9/11, a broken spirit.

The Foster design was my favorite of all the wtc towers. I've had time to calm down about the big design. And give it some thought. And it still sux to the max. It would be the worse new building in the city decades. Hopefully Silverstein comes to his senses.

As a newcomer to this saga I agree with you guys, I am NOT a fan of the BIG design (in fact not really a fan of Bjarke Ingles work, period). But, after almost 15 years I kind of just want the WTC complex to be completed, and if the BIG design does it then that's OK, maybe it'll look majestic in the real world.

Im ok with the overall new 2 wtc design, but the leaning part bothers me a lot. It reminds me of the old 2 wtc collapsing. I think it would look soo much better if the boxes were stacked evenly like this:
Still prefer the Foster design overall. It fits the complex more. P.S. Sorry for having posted a 9/11 image before.

This thread is going on forever.
Even though of zoning, I think they should make it a residential tower.
They cant find tenants for the offices since ever.
It makes less commuting in the area and they should sell the appartments pretty fast too.

Just utterly disappointing. This tower was by far the best design and to go from that to this bland piece of crap is just so damn sad. Hate it.

Money talks, so the 'potential' tenants will make the final decision to go with Foster or BIG based on cost and fit to their needs. BIG's design may better fit, but will they pay the price?
