Wonder how expensive this tower will end up being when all is said and done? Foundation work should be interesting to watch at least.

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.
I was born in '88 and everyone from my generation seemed to adore the twins before they fell.

There are so many variables it's really hard to say. Which of the designs will be chosen or possibly will there be answer design? When will the construction start and end? How much special interior work will be required for the anchor tenant? Until there are answers and many other questions any cost estimate will just be speculation.

Thanks. Yeah, it's really impossible to know right now. Could end up being the most expensive building of the complex the way things are going.

Shame we're coming up on almost six months since the news corp deal fell through and still nothing.

Yup, they were my favourite skyscrapers, and not just for sentimental values. I love that kind of powerful sleek aesthetics.

I would expect to see some movement at this site as Tower 3 is wrapped up over the next year.

Hopefully! Regardless of whichever design is chosen or liked, I think it's 100% certain no one wants to see a hole in the ground for so long.

One thing I don't like, which I really began to notice once BIG's design was revealed, was how segregated 1 WTC is from the rest of the buildings.

This is probably one of two views I like of BIG's tower. Squint your eyes and y'all see twins!

^Agreed. I think Foster's tower complemented the site much better.

Even after a year it's still hard to get on board with this new design. Foster's beautiful tower was always my favorite of the complex and it's still king in my eyes.

I think the twinning effect will be lost a bit with the height cut. This is 1270' now right? Hope they don't cut it further.

The final height and even the final design are still up in the air for this building and will be until a major tenet is found in construction begins. We may not know the final height until it's complete.

There could also still be some potential design modifications to BIG's tower if it goes through. Still a lot of unknowns.

Construction offices got put in on the north side of 2 WTC last night. Also in this picture you can notice a few construction workers walking around.

Trailers have nothing to do with 2WTC. Temporary PATH station is about to come down!

I feel like its a lost cause, but meh.

YIMBY: It’s Time to Bring Back Norman Foster’s Design for 2 World Trade Center

the renderings from the article are by Jose Hernandez [Otie]

as of now, this is what will be built, whenever that may be.

I read the editorial and totally agree with YIMBy's points (and I am quite glad that he has chosen to give his opinion on the matter.) I've noticed something that's somewhat irrelevant based on the renderings - BIG's tower would look taller because of its flat roof, despite its shorter height. Does not change my perspective as I I still wholeheartedly believe the Foster design is better, but just saying.

BIG's tower would only look taller from the West because of how Foster designed the top. In fact, Foster's would be taller with a pinnacle at 1349'. The tallest figure we know of for BIG is from the CTBUH, which lists BIG's design at 1323'. The difference is trivial. Both towers would have a roof height of 1270' (though BIG's might be shorter - Silverstein/WTC websites list the total height at 1270')
