4 WTC, for example, is a masterpiece of architecture - especially at this location.
Maki (the architect) designed the tower to appear calm and quiet. He made the facade extremely reflective in order to make the tower light; hell, sometimes it almost disappears in the skyline. In combination with the minimalistic architecture, Maki created a tower that respects the history of the location.

BIG on the other hand, designed an attention seeking eye sore that tries to steal the visitors attention from the memorial. It's expressive design is very disrespectful and acts like a huge middle finger to the 9/11 memorial. Not to mention that the 2WTC even looks like a falling tower, as if BIG intends to provoke the emotions that people try to digest.
I really like BIG, but this proposal is a big screw-up! Their expressive and radical design philosophy really has nothing to do at this place

..
Couldn't agree more. 4WTC is a gem and perhaps the best tower of them all.

I agree, 1WTC is an absolute beauty, but they didn't finish the spire properly in my opinion, therefore the 4th tower is my favorite in a way.

The "value engineering" decision to stick a bare bones spire instead of a stately, grand one really is what brings my opinion of the tower down. They had done it right, it would have been if not great, damn good. The slightness of the spire though is something you can't help but notice and it's depressing they didn't go for the best possible design. It isn't great but not anywhere near awful otherwise. I agree though that so far, on pure aesthetics, though as said WTC4 is pretty much minimalist, it's truly elegant and the reflective glass is so brilliant. I do love it most of what's been built so far.

BIG should stick with projects under 600 feet.

There's some excavation being done on the East side of the site. It's hard to see on the Earthcam since they messed up the zoom recently. Anyone know what's happening?

I'm guessing/hoping it's work to finish the plaza. They can close the area off again when 2 WTC restarts.

I believe at least part of that area is within the footprint of the building.

Yes, where they are working is actually where part of the building will be. The work being done is related to the E station, however.
