Indeed. The diamonds won't be visible from the Memorial; maybe the best street-level area of the city to appreciate them would be Battery Park.

Looking at the webcams, the rest of the perimeter columns have been erected on the foundation level!

good news everybody!

http://www.wtc.com/about/office-tower-2

Quote:
2 World Trade Center at 200 Greenwich Street, features a sparkling glazed crystalline form and diamond-shaped summit that will create a bold addition to the New York skyline. Designed by Foster and Partners, the 88-story tower will be the second-tallest skyscraper on the World Trade Center site and in New York City. Located east of the proposed performing arts center and north of the WTC Transportation Hub, 2 WTC will rise to 1,349 feet and be topped by an 80-foot antenna.

The tower will contain five levels of retail; 60 office floors, including a sky lobby, that total 3.1 million rentable square feet; and a 67-foot-high office lobby. It will have a total of eight entrances: five entrances from street level, one below-grade entrances from the WTC Transportation Hub, and two from the retail area.

The first office floor begins at 278 feet above street level. A typical office area will vary in size from 41,000 to 45,000 rentable square feet of space. Additionally, there will be four trading floors.
this makes 2WTC 1429ft (435,5m) tall!

EDIT: ok, it could be intepreted as 1349ft including the antenna...

I don't think this will increase the height..This 80 foot antenna will probably be included in that height of 1,349 feet...Only thing changed are those floors..

yeah, that's why i edited my post. seems to me that some taller floors will be counted twice. it's funny though that NY doesn't have a single 80 or 90 storey building. maybe that's the reason they changed it (3WTC has been pushed to 80 floors).

Yeah, looks like that..I doubt there will be height changes..Plans are defined long time ago..Now only if something really go wrong in the future and they decide to decrease the height..That would be bad...

Well, how this year started, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a couple in the near future..

They increased the number of floors? I find it hard to believe, but if it's true it's good news. Also, it's clear that this building has no antenna, so whatever happens the official height will be counted to the structural tip.

They didn't change the building at all. They're just counting the double-height mechanical floors twice. For example, there's not going to be a 6th floor, because the 5th floor is a high floor, so they skip right from 5 to 7.

Ho, 435.5 meter tall and 88 floors really excellent for a height like that. Extend 16.4 meter more and ties with Petronas Towers.

The sunlight reflection wouldn't work like that anyways with the constantly changing angle of the Sun, not just during the day, but as the seasons change where it's arc across the sky gets highest in summer and lowest in winter.

As tall as the building is going to be, I can't imagine even being able to see those diamonds anywhere around the memorial waterfall squares. If the diamonds reflect to anywhere, it'll probably be on the upper parts of 1WTC, 7WTC, WFC cluster, and possibly a bit of Goldman Sachs building in the first half of the day.

Thanks STR, that is very informative. Below grade construction is often the most interesting.

If you mean the connection between PATH and the chambers street station, it's not there yet (closed temporarily) but it will all be connected eventually.
