They also released an animation of the tower:

And can we get the height updated to 244m / 802' in the thread title?
promising news, and a really nice video!

SAN FRANCISCO | 181 Fremont | 700ft | 210m | 54 fl | Pro

Quote:
181 Fremont is a proposed, 54-story mixed use office and residential tower. The project is located on Fremont Street between Howard and Mission Streets, immediately adjacent to the new Transbay Transit Center. Transbay is the emerging locus of San Francisco’s financial district and is surrounded by a vibrant mixed-use community including the Rincon Hill neighborhoods. Entitlements for 181 Fremont are currently underway.

This building is 802' feet tall, not 700'. 700' is the height to the roof, but the screening and spire reaches 802', and spires are usually counted in the total height of a building (unlike antennas).

Reminds me a little of the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong with the exterior trusses. Very nice tower.

Yeah I always thought it looked like the Bank of China tower's little cousin.

The existing buildings on the site are getting prepped for demolition. One step closer to a new second tallest for SF! Third tallest, once the Transbay tower gets built...and 4th if 50 First street gets built too.

Demolition has started, and construction is expected to begin in November:

Quote:
Jay Paul Co. has started demolition on 181 Fremont St., clearing the way for a 54-story office and residential condo building next to the Transbay Transit Center.

Right now the demo work is interior, but the construction fences are up and the heavy equipment on site.

Once the two existing buildings are razed, the Silicon Valley developer expects to start construction in November on the tower, which will top off at 800 feet and 684,000 square feet...

An interesting thing in that article that I had never heard about before is that the tower will have retail space on the fifth floor, connected to the Transbay roof park.

Currently: Former tenant RocketSpace have found a new home, and the demolition permits were issued August 6 to demolish the two existing structures. Some reconnaissance this week shows the entire structure fenced off and interior demolition, at the very least, has already begun.

Wow This building is fantastic. Long time I do not follow the news from San Francisco, and now not even remember the projects proposed for this area. But I'm happy to see that the city will receive a project as good as this.

Jay Paul Strikes Again

Quote:
The Transbay district will feature a wide range of activities from transit, offices and homes to shopping, restaurants and parks. One tower being built in the neighborhood will echo its diversity: 181 Fremont St., the only mixed-use building in the district plan so far offering residences and offices.

Jay Paul Co. expects to spend approximately $450 million to construct the 54-story structure, including purchasing the site from SKS Investments in March. When completed in mid-2015, it will be the second tallest in the district and have 684,000 square feet. The first 36 floors will hold offices; luxury condominiums will fill the top 17 floors. The 54th floor will be devoted to mechanical equipment. Small retail, such as food and coffee shops, will be on the ground floor.

Developing offices and condos in 181 Fremont St. “is a way to hedge bets.” Matt Lituchy, chief investment officer, Jay Paul Co.

“We are big believers in vertical mixed-use projects. Mixed-use buildings in downtown are extremely sustainable and green because they promote living and working in the same vicinity. It’s the fundamental idea of walkable cities,” said Jeffrey Heller, president of Heller Manus Architects, the San Francisco firm that designed the building and is aiming for at least a LEED Gold rating from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program.

There's already a thread for this tower:

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=747464

And it's in the skyscraper forum, which is where it belongs, seeing as it's 802' tall (not sure why you listed it at 700' as that's just the roof height).

It's a great looking tower though.

I listed it at 700 ft because that's what it's listed at by the SF mod who created the thread in the SF section (Animo) --figured he knew what he's doing.

Anyway, if there's a thread that's fine. This forum can be too confusing sometimes--I could't find it.

And have a nice day.

Yeah it can be confusing with so many places to post the same things. As for the building height, the thread I linked had it originally listed as 700' as well, but it's since been changed to 802', as it should be. 700' is the height to the roof, but the full structural height, including crown and spire, is 802'.
