Riding the infoway to airport
http://www.deccanherald.com/content/...y-airport.html

Bangalore, June 22, DHNS:
Quote:
Rides on Volvo buses plying to Bangalore International Airport is all set to rock, if the government’s promise of installing individual TV sets and Internet facility in the vehicles materialises.

All that the commuters need to do is sit back and turn on the monitor behind the seats in front of them.

They could watch music programmes, surf Internet and get updated on the arrival and departure of flights at the airport. And the best part is, the facilities come free; the commuters will not have to pay anything more than the ticket fare. They, however, will have to watch the ads of the government’s private partners who will be funding the facilities.
Who gives such ideas?? already service running under loss and people can check internet on their smartphones..

Seriously. And that too after a miserable fail in TN.

Few of you might know that TNSTC / SETC has this entertainment system on all their video coaches run as a channel BOOM TV. It is currently on around 5000 buses, but the ad income is damn low. Originally these systems were designed to stream content from a CDMA connection, so that all buses play a satellite channel itself. But the pathetic ad revenues forced the operators to provide ad included video content through pen drives. Am sure even that is going to fail and state is forced to buy all those fancy LCD monitors and switch back to DVD players. People these days are not ready to watch the ad supported boring content without any control when they have an iPod / mobile phone with video in them. When will these guys understand..

State-run corporation suffers over Rs 2.5 cr
42 buses damaged
Quote:
Bangalore, July 5, DHNS:

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) suffered heavy financial loses as a result of the Monday bundh.

Officials from the BMTC said the State-run corporation pressed some of its scheduled buses in the morning, but had to withdraw it within hours after 42 vehicles were damaged in incidents of stone pelting by unruly mobs and miscreants, in various parts of the City.

“We sustained revenue loss to the tune of Rs 2.5 crore, a full day’s loss apart from Rs 5 lakh from damages caused by way of broken window glass panes etc.,” said officials.

BMTC withdrew its entire fleet of Volvo premium services in the City and to the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) as a precautionary measure. A total of 370 Vajra and 63 Vayu Vajra operate daily, apart from 5,000 buses of other categories. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) had also withdrawn 5,000 plus of its buses from service from 6 am to 6 pm. A lone bus of KSRTC was damaged at Harihar, near Hubli.
DHNS

370+63 = 433 Volvos only???? I heard Bangalore has 500+ volvos, may be some are due??

I am sure there are 500+ volvos in bangalore

6 volvo buses from Mysore division dispatched to Mangalore city likewise 12 volvos from Bangalore division....Would the buses be returned to their former divisions once Mangalore division is set up???

Can someone clarify again the split up of Bangalore's buses ?

And btw, is there a route from BTM Layout to Yeshvantpur ? It's hard to get around in this maddening traffic.

BTM and Yeshvanthpur are opposite ends of bangalore Currently no option than to go via majestic. But wait for a month, ring road near Nayandahalli, Mysore road construction will be over, and you can go by a Big-Circle bus Via other half of ring road(via marathhalli) is longer and more congested so not recommended.

Come to St Johns, you will get a direct bus K1 to YPR. Frequency must be one in 15-20 minutes.

thanks Gentem, srikanth.

@Akash : regarding the old 600 route bus, I see a lot of it on the roads. I have also noticed many old dabba articulated buses. Haven't they been phased out/shifted completely yet ?

I am a frequent user of that route,I find it is going to immensely benefit the residents of kengeri, they need not go to the satellite bus stand.
