The Luxuria bus costs around Rs 2.5 Crores, you can get 3 Volvo's at the same cost.

The fare is Rs 1800 from Bangalore to Chennai. But surprisingly most of their schedules are going full.

Here's a link to their online booking in my site:

That may be the base fare. Then you need to add Fuel Surh Charges, Airport fee, taxes, etc.

The minimum fuel charges for any route is Rs 1500 for any route.

Currently the Chennai minimum flight rates are not less than Rs 2000.

Most of the sites advertise base fares to grab customer attention, but when you book the fares the final price quoted gets higher.

For flight travelers to Chennai its the best option.

E.g A person going from Electronic City to BIAL he needs to spend at least Rs 1000 on Taxi plus another Rs 3000 on flight.

A B9R costs close to a crore. Luxuria is a custom redesigned bus - by the "famed" DC.

The website cannot be a reliable source of information. I have noticed that in many cases, the booking website shows that the bus is full, but in reality more than half the bus remains empty. Perhaps this is because seats are allotted in lots to Travel agents - who are not directly connected to the reservation system.

Perhaps, only reservation systems of Government operators can be relied for finding out seat occupancy.

DC design, but chassis is volvo B12R.

multi axle volvo's second axle in rear has only 2 wheels. so total wheels in the bus is 2+4+2..

B12R is not available in India. Volvo sells B7R in 4x2 configuration, and B9R in 6x2 configuration in India.

Multi-Axle chassis outside in India are based on the B12R and B12B, but in India, only B9R is available in multi-axle configuration.

AND, what is with the number of wheels? The B9R comes in 6x2 configuration i.e., a total of 6 wheels of which only 2 are powered (total 8 tyres).

No more Volvos in city fleet

Nov. 23: With the city on the verge of acquiring world-class transport infrastructure, the BMTC has put on hold any plans to add new Volvos to its luxury bus fleet.

Instead, plans are afoot to introduce new, non-AC buses to the ordinary bus fleet since these buses are very much in demand. The Bangalore Metro Project is nearing completion on the Reach-1 stretch between Byapanahalli and MG Road and it is likely that the entire project will be completed by the end of 2012. Apart from this, monorail, which will serve as the feeder service for Metro Rail, is also in the pipeline. With the number of public transport projects sweeping Bengaluru, the BMTC is in wait-and-watch mode.

There are already 6,200 buses being operated by BMTC in the city. So there doesn’t seem to be an urgent need for more buses.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior BMTC official said: “We have put the plan of adding more buses on city roads on hold till December 2010. However, as per the schedule, we will introduce 800 buses to the ordinary bus fleet of BMTC by March 2011. We plan to introduce new buses in stages. However, we have no plans to add more buses to the luxury bus fleet. We are not even discussing the idea. The roads are already saturated, plus other transport projects are also coming up in Bengaluru. We will take action as per the requirement.”

Ordinary bus fleets like Big-10 have been a huge success in the city. However, Volvo buses have incurred heavy losses for quite a while. This applies especially to the Vayu Vajra-Airport buses, which are not much in demand since the fares have gone up drastically after the fuel hike.

“Yes, it is true that the airport Volvo buses are facing a loss. Since the fares are high, people travelling with their acquaintances or relatives to the airport prefer to hire a taxi as it would cost less. The approximate one-way fare per person comes to `150 while the cab fares vary between `500 and 650. If more than one person is travelling to the airport, cabs are preferred, which is why we don’t intend to introduce new Volvo buses as of now,” added the official.

For Airport Services, it is better to have 'Vayu Vajras' with the 'luggage racks'.

And yes, others also use Vayu Vajra's apart from the air travellers. I think it is mostly those work in BIAL. The bus picks passengers from the road after leaving BIAL parking lot till the trumpet interchange.

Traffic police tips drive BMTC to safety

Penalties for traffic violation have come down drastically. Tips on reponsible driving from the Bangalore Traffic Police to the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) drivers seem to be yielding fruit. The corporation, which was known for paying penalties in lakhs for traffic violations committed by its drivers, has managed to reduce them by over 50 percent this year. According to information available with the traffic police, BMTC has paid only Rs 16 lakh as penalty this year compared to Rs 35 lakh the previous year. Speaking to Deccan Herald Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic & Security) Praveen Sood said: “Last year we asked the BMTC to start recovering a portion, if not all, of the fine the corporation pays as penalty from the drivers, so that there is some accountability.” It has worked wonderfully with the fine amount reducing drastically, he added.
