Bangalore babus bus it out to their workplaces

Quote:
The fourth of every month has been observed as Bus Day for over a year now, and on this month’s Bus Day, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) saw many senior bureaucrats ride public buses to work.

Among the bureaucrats who bussed it on Wednesday were GK Boregowda, secretary, department of parliamentary affairs, GS Narayana Swamy, secretary, revenue department, KGV Murthy, secretary, department of law, KS Prabhakar, secretary, revenue and Muni Veeregowda, deputy commissioner, Road Transport Office, Bangalore. These bureaucrats waited at the bus stop nearest their homes, and took the bus to their offices at the Vikasa and Vidhana Soudha.

This Bus Day was conducted to discipline government officers and to promote public transport among all sections of society. The officers interacted with other riders on the public buses. In coming months, BMTC expects to rope in senior police personnel too into Bus Day.

TTMC at Banashankari is complete. Not much of a looker though but much better then the old dilapidated stand.

Hope it reduces the chaos at the junction. I feel this crossing badly needs a flyover along Kanakpura road.

That bus station ain't going to reduce the chaos on that junction. Also, I don't think building flyover will reduce it either. It need some complex grade separator, maybe combination of underpass, flyovers with loops.

Its also high time that the planner thinks of this junction as an integrated transit point. Metro & BMTS should have built an integrated complex or should atleast try to connect both the stations and keep the roads free of pedestrians. It took me over 5 min during mid day (when traffic was at its least) to cross this junction.

It's even worse for pedestrians.

Very sensible design with only 2 floors. I think traffic will reduce there when Kadirenahalli underpass is finished and people will use ORR.

BMTC feeder plan to smooth commutes

Quote:
Here is good news for commuters who travel across the city every day hopping buses and battling traffic. Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is planning a new feeder service which will carry them from city pockets to major roads from where they can take buses moving to the central business district (CBD) area or Outer Ring Road (ORR).

This service will be different from BMTC’s Metro feeder service, said Ashwin Mahesh, advisor to government on transport, at a recent meeting.

Explaining his ideas, Mahesh said, “We mostly see jobs on the outskirts of the city, in CBD area and residential localities scattered in city pockets. People travel from one corner of the city to the other taking two, three and, sometimes, four buses to reach their respective destinations. Poor land planning increases traffic problems and pushes commuters to use their personal vehicles.”

His concept focuses on feeder services in smaller city areas which will link commuters to major roads from where they can board Big Circle buses plying on the ORR or Big 10 buses which move on straight line corridors from corners of the city to the CBD on MG Road or Cunningham Road.

“People staying in residential areas can take this feeder service and reach a major bus terminus from there they can hop on Big Circle or Big 10 buses. These buses will help them reach their destinations much faster and easily,” he said.

BMTC already plies Big Circle buses numbered C-1 to C-11 on the Outer Ring Road . And Big 10 buses ply from Old Madras Road, Old Airport Road, Sarjapura Road, Hosur Road, Bannerghatta Road, Mysore Road, Tumkur Road, Kanakpura Road, Bellary Road, Magadi Road, Thanisandra Road and Hennur Road towards Brigade Road, Mayo Hall, BRV Grounds or Cunningham Road.

Two commuters, when informed about the feeder service plan, hoped it would save them from their present plight.

“I take a bus to Majestic or Shivajinagar bus stations and from there take another bus to reach Mayo Hall to take a Big 10 bus to Sarjapura. If there are buses that take me to Hebbal, I can take any bus on the outer ring road which goes towards Sarjapura. It would be a much more comfortable journey for me,” said Priyanka Raghavendra, resident of Lottegollahalli.

A resident of Sumbramanyanagar, Vasu Nagesh, a student, said: “I was thinking of buying a two-wheeler as I have to change three buses to reach my work place near Whitefield, which is too inconvenient. If BMTC starts such a feeder service, I could take one Big 10 and one Big Circle bus and reach my office comfortably.”

Mahesh said the concept was on the formative stage and talks have to be held with the transport minister and BMTC on adding infrastructure. “The current infrastructure does not support this plan. We need more buses and BMTC is also falling short,” he said.

Nice pics Kadri, last I saw the entry ramp to the TTMC, because of which traffic below the flyover had to go thru the TTMC [horrible uneven route] is nearing completion.

Could any of you comment on the bus commute time from Hebbal to the tech companies on Sarjapur road (Wipro, Intel etc)? What are the usual rush hours, and does the commute take longer in the evenings as I've heard? Thanks!

Ys buddy Hebbal is quite out of the IT parks (except MBP) there is a ring road (ORR) which has one bus in less than 30 secs and as of now its tough to travel this route as many flyovers are being built , come end of this year travel will be like butter on the bread :-)
