Dont know what BTP is planning nowadays
The buses towards Padmanabhanagar were stopped after an accident involving BMTC bus which claimed 2 ppl.

And regarding the 60 series bus, that is to avoid reduce the congestion near Netkallapa circle. Traffic has increased a lot here, and they have installed Traffic Signal now. Buses taking left in front of the Sri Venkateshwara Textiles used to have a hard time.

BANGALORE: That endless wait for public transport is likely to be livened up soon with movie viewing and shopping binges. Thanks to a BMTC endeavour, bus depots at Hebbal, Jayanagar 9th Block and Kathriguppe will get a makeover with traffic and transit management centres (TTMCs) housing swanky malls and commercial establishments. BMTC will call for bids to develop the three depots into transportation hubs as a PPP endeavour and design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis.

COMPLETE MAKEOVER "We are unlocking the land value of BMTC assets. These TTMCs will be equipped with adequate bus bays and parking facilities, besides exploring commercial opportunities," said KR Sreenivasa, MD, BMTC.

"The proposal has attracted the attention of infrastructure companies and developers. Ramky Infrastructure, for instance, has won the bid to build and manage Hebbal depot through a competitive bidding process," a company official said.

Concession period for the project is 30 years, which can be extended by another 30. The 7.95-acre Hebbal depot is located at the intersection of NH7 and Outer Ring Road. Hebbal TTMC is estimated to cost a whopping Rs 300 crore with provision of 9 lakh sqft area earmarked for commercial and retail operations.

BMTC has already developed 10 TTMCs at Yeshwantpur, Jayanagar, Shantinagar, Koramangala, Domlur, Whitefield, Vijayanagar, Bannerghatta and Kengeri at a whopping cost of Rs 482 crore from JNNURM funds.

TO BOOST BMTC COFFERS "Annually we earn Rs 35 crore from the 10 TTMCs and expect to clear JNNURM debt. Now, we are planning to build 35 more TTMCs across the city on a PPP model," said Sreenivasa.

"The royalty-based dry rental model in older TTMCs hasn't been successful in generating adequate revenue. The commercially more relevant terms being offered now to develop new terminals will boost BMTC's coffers," said Prashanth Sambargi, partner at Mars Realty.

The PPP model for the new TTMCs focuses on making barren land, where buses were parked and repaired, commercially more viable. "The model is a win-win situation for both the developer and BMTC. We are exploring opportunities to develop retail spaces in some good locations. The corporation can exploit the floor space index to its potential to generate additional revenue" said Raj Menda, MD of RMZ Corp.

Nitesh Shetty, CMD, Nitesh Estates, told TOI they are exploring one or two options proposed under the PPP route.

BMTC is also conducting a feasibility study to examine if Electronics City and Yelahanka depots, too, can be converted into TTMCs under the PPP model.

What's the project about? TTMCs are a vital cog in any city's urban infrastructure. Parking and other facilities will help commuters interchange between different modes of transportation. The proposed TTMCs will house a fuelling station, administration building, washing area and maintenance workshop. These facilities should be created within two years of signing the contract.

The commercial space should be developed within five years of commencement of the contract. The concessionaire will have to pay BMTC an upfront fee of Rs 10 crore and fixed annuity of Rs 1 crore for the concession period. BMTC MD KR Sreenivasa said whoever pays a higher annuity will get the offer on approval from the government.

BMTC paints the town red

BANGALORE: There's a splash of red in town. Crimson red. It's not the Volvo, but the new-generation low-floored, passenger-friendly crimson red BMTC buses that have hit the roads. They are a makeover for the transport corporation and for the city itself. However, the simple blue and white buses will continue to ply.

In a first for Bangalore, BMTC has introduced technologically advanced and eco-friendly Bharat Stage four or Euro IV buses for ordinary passengers, painted in crimson red. So far, BS-3 or Euro-3 had been the environmental standard. Paint is not the only distinct feature - the vehicle has an electronic number display in front and on the rear side, making it easy for passengers to identify the route. The lights are brighter inside lending a brighter internal feel, a voice-announcing system, spacious seats and a low floor - all this by paying ordinary bus fare.

BMTC technical director S K Paramesh told TOI, "We have introduced 234 crimson red buses. We chose this colour instead of the Volvo red because it gives the bus a sophisticated look. Our idea was to brighten up bus services as well as the city."

BMTC has deployed these buses as part of its original plan to introduce 600 buses as replacement for the old, rickety ones. An additional 139 are set to be deployed soon as the transport corporation has March 31 as deadline to introduce 375 buses.

"Passengers have liked the colour and say the bus is noticeable. There is also a positive feedback about seats, lights and LED display boards. For an ordinary service, the comfort level is good," says Paramesh. BMTC officials said the engine being BS-4, emission levels are much lower. "Technology is such that the bus can be adapted even to Euro-5 standards."

The service is doing well in terms of profitability too. Deployed on some of the main routes such as Shivajinagar, Vijayanagar, Marathahalli, Koramangala and Yelahanka, more and more people are choosing the crimson red over ordinary blue buses for its feel-good factor. More areas will benefit when the next round of 139 buses hits the road.

Is it crimson red-it looks more like the volvo red especially when looked from long-the only thing that looks to make the difference is the height of the buses and the placement of board-otherwise its quite confusing till bus nears

Some observations today

1.Looks like BTP is all set for diverting buses onto whichever narrow lanes possible

The latest entrant here is diversion of routes of 201. Probably to avoid the jam between Udupi garden signal and silk board

201 series(As noticed today) turn left to Tavarekere road to proceed further from Udupi garden-when enquired the conductor of 201MD said(I got down at Udupi garden) that th ebus will surface out at madiwala check post and proceed to St. Johns hospital where it will turn right to join Water tank at Koramangla and continue left to proceed on its old route

The Udupi garden bus stop is now sheltered in front of Adyar anandha bhavan close to the petrol pump-all buses now use the left most lane only at the signal owing to the bus stop(Except those proceeding to 2nd stage taking a right)

And needless to say while 201, 201G took a left, the 500 series waited for the signal and the jam was as before!! Also looks like 162A(which also goes to madiwala) ran straight(Probably BTP overlooked this bus as board showed it as 162A/25A)

2.Other major observation made today was the Regn number of route no. 1-it showed KA-57-F-06(Some new RTO again??) and it was a BS IV bus in crimson red proceeding to Yeshvantapur

3. this was again a major obervation-found on back glass of route No. 271F(KR market-Chikkabanavara)-(KA-01-F-2xxx) the stickering was in green and in kannada(couldnt recollect the exact word but said something like jaivya xxxx) which is assume must have meant an ethanol mixed fuelling or bio-diesel(Is Bio-diesel used by BMTC)-next to it crossed a another bus(Belonging to same generation as of 271F) which over the fuel tank said ethanol mixed-so thought both must have been same

Oh! This explains why I saw a lot of 201 series buses landing up at Madiwala from a small road - I thought it was some new route they launched (I did not concentrate much on the number - alphabets at that time). A lot of new BS4 buses were on that route.

Yes-201M and 201 both have lot of BS-IV's plying as they mainly belong to Depot-16 or depot-17 (Vijayanagar)

So hope can get more bus photos from you soon Binai-you are in Bangalore again-I adore your photos on picasa

A little correction Depot-16 and depot-17 belongs to Deepanjalinagar and Chandra layout respectively.

Depot-5 belongs to Vijayanagar.

I stay close by to Chandra layout depot, but BS-4 buses are not many in number at this depot. Out of every 10 buses you may find 2-3 BS 4 buses coming into the depot.

But most of the BS4 buses belong to depot 16 (Deepanjalinagar). However both the depot has Tata buses.

Amid all these one more news that i read in paper few days back
http://expressbuzz.com/cities/bangal...ed/363922.html

No stopping at Richmond road circle for buses bound to Jayanagar-also it was reported by one of our members that buses dont pass by that road but run through a lane onto mission road and proceed further to KH road

why so much of changes so fast-so confusing for everyone-BTP has to only reply in thsi regard

Thanks for you appreciation. I do hope to get some images before I return to Kerala this weekend.

I saw a brand new BS4 Volvo 8400 today at Shantinagar - it was in the regular red *hot* livery as other Volvos. It was KA-01-F-9537 (or 9538) IIRC, of Depot-7, working 360B. Could not get an image - would hunt for this tomorrow. Does anyone know if the Ashok Leyland ULE bus is still running on trial?
