All the Coronas which you have seen seems to be of Depot 13(Kamakhya) which ply in different routes from majestic which would be returning to the depot after its run.

The green volvo would also been the same case i guess. Don't think it would be the 7400XL.

There is only one 7400XL on trial in the city. It's the same bus which was displayed at Auto expo in New Delhi last year.

Even I agree man. I loved few of the initial lot of Volvos which came out with the headrest seatings. Few seats of airport buses were converted to install the tablets but after the project failed, BMTC continued with the present style of Harita seatings

Techies design the big bus pool

Quote:
This is a must-read for techies. The city's tech community, which has been supporting public transport in a big way for some years now, is making a new attempt to reduce traffic and transportation hassles.

Using the tools and skills of their business, they have created a web platform where anyone can opt for the best possible route to take a bus from their home or neighbourhood to their workplace during office hours. Named 'Wheels', it will be launched on July 28 with support from the government, traffic police and transportation experts. This web platform will have details of routes and drivers of buses which ply to the companies or tech parks, including their tracking IDs. The website is still under construction.

Bus routes are slotted under categories: towards Electronic City or Outer Ring Road or Manyata Tech Park. A click on any particular route elicits the bus stops along the way.

Here's how it works: if you live at Bhashyam Circle, Rajajinagar 6th Block, and work in a company along Outer Ring Road, you can go to the website, click on the route icon to know which buses go towards ORR and click on the route between Rajajinagar and ORR. It displays the route number, bus stops in Rajajinagar, and the time the bus would arrive at that particular bus stop. In case you are unable to find the best possible route or bus stop to board the bus, you can drop a mail to the Bangalore Wheels team for more information. At present, there are seven corridors, with nearly 100 routes operating under the Common Bus System ( CBS), which works on the same model of sharing public transport.

Besides, if you want to know who the driver is, you can find the details, including name, tracking ID, contact number and licence number. The Wheels team has included names and details of drivers, and the search can be modified company-wise.

CORRIDOR NETWORK

"The Common Bus System was evolved to assist employees of various companies and tech hubs working along a particular corridor, like ORR, Whitefield and Electronic City, travel from their neighbourhoods to their companies in one bus. Buses from different parts of the city ply towards these IT corridors so the Wheels model is based on this," said Seetharam Vishwanath, who chairs the Wheels team.

He also said the Wheels model will be made a public-private partnership, because BMTC alone cannot provide so many buses for techies. They will ensure that some private buses are also hired. Employees of government offices, banks and garment factories can also use this network for transit. The fact that it is web based will ensure transparency and safety.

Government officials like Praveen Sood, IGP, computer wing, MA Saleem, additional commissioner of police (traffic), KR Sreenivasa, BMTC managing director, and civic and transport experts like RK Misra, Ashwin Mahesh and MN Sreehari are members of the team, drawing up feasible ideas to reduce traffic and transport glitches.

IT CITY'S CORRIDORS

Electronic City

ITPL in Whitefield

Koramangala-Indiranagar Inner Ring Road

Outer Ring Road - Marathahalli-Sarjapur

Bannerghatta Road

Manyata Tech Park

234E is amongst the oldest route doing KBS-Ullal Upanagar. Very recently they have introduced a Corona on this route and this is the only A/C bus that plies to this part of Bangalore.

I guess BMTC is testing this bus on the rugged roads of University Campus to check Corona's performance

Channapatna to get hi-tech private bus terminal

Quote:
Channapatna will soon get an ultramodern terminal for private buses.

Ramanagara-Channapatna Urban Development Authority (RCUDA) has invited tenders from eligible bidders and class-1 contractors registered with the Department of Public Works for constructing the eight-floor bus terminal complex. The “pre-bid meeting” will be held at the authority’s office in Ramanagaram on July 11.

The bus terminal will have facilities such as two-wheeler and four-wheeler parking areas, toilets, public telephones, emergency medical aid, ATM counters, supermarkets and other commercial establishments, a garden, terrace restaurants and a multiplex. The bus terminal will also have ramps so as to provide hassle-free access to the aged and persons with physical disabilities.

“Several buses ply via Channapatna to various districts and States. The existing private bus terminal does not have adequate facilities. There was a need to have a better bus terminal and hence RCUDA came up with the project,” K. Sheshadri, Chairman of RCUDA, told The Hindu on Thursday.

The project, a joint venture with the Channapatna City Municipal Council, is estimated to cost Rs. 32.63 crore. It will come up on 8,824.64-sq m plot attached to the existing private bus-stand, adjacent to the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation’s bus terminal.

The plot is now being used to dump garbage and for parking autorickshaws, maxicabs, and trucks.

“RCUDA and the CMC have jointly drawn up the blueprint for the ultramodern bus terminal that will have a built-up area of 20,020 sq m,” Mr. Sheshadri said.

While the State government has given administrative approval for the project, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services has issued a no-objection certificate.

“We have invited tenders and the project will be completed within 36 months,” an officer attached to the Channapatna CMC said.

RCUDA and the CMC expect revenue of at least Rs. 10 crore every year from the terminal complex. Two floors in the complex will be set aside for multiplex and another two floors for restaurants.

“The main purpose of constructing the bus terminal is to ease traffic congestion on the Bangalore-Mysore highway in front of the existing private bus-stand,” an officer said.

For the past few weeks, I am seeing route called K-3 starting from HSR BDA Complex. Is this a new route or a temporary extension due to Koramangala underpass construction?
