You need more than one opera to make Stockholm more interesting, lol. Besides, the Stockholm opera just visited Oslo opera. They said they also want a new opera in Stockholm, But Sweden can't afford it. lol. They also said that the working conditions in Stockholm are really bad, lol

I think maybe Stockholm should try something new. Now both Oslo and Cph has use the opera idea. Getting kinda old. Maybe some kind of attraction that is more for "the people" than an opera...

I don't think it is about "The opera idea". Both Copenhagen and especially Oslo needed a new Opera building (so does Stockholm). Opera buildings are very expencive, so it is natural that they become prestige buildings for cities/nations. Besides, Opera is for the people. Saying it is for the elite is just a myth.

I didn't say that. I said it wasn't for the "people". Opera tickets (Oslo opera) cost 1-2000 crowns, and the building can fit in 1350 people in an evening at max. There are more "folkelige" institutions out there. A national library, for instance

Opera is old culture. So the old opera building in Stockholm is just perfect. And the museal view of central Stockholm is just perfect, just the way most Swedes and Stockholmers want it.

Besides, Stockholm have many exciting modern developments going on. How about Stockholmsarenan next to Globen? Or Hagastaden (aka Norra station with Tors Torn)? That's the areas for modern architecture.

Yes, the origin of opera is old, but like all artforms it is also under developing. If you ask the people working at the Stockholm opera, they want a new opera. I should think they now best in these matters.

We have had PC's for some time now. I guess even you don't use an old IBM anymore?

What IceCheese pointed out is that the usual photos we see from Stockholm is pretty much older buildings. They look good, but personally I would prefer more modern buildings to make it more interesting.

Computers still play an important role in people's life. So does football and we are building a kick-ass national stadium right now. You Norwegians on the other hand built a kick-ass arena for a completely marginalized art form. So I think it's more accurate to say that you have the fanciest slide projector in the Nordic but you are stuck with the IBM PC.

Agree! It's a very unattractive city. However... by mixing modern buildings with all the old boring buildings would look like a mess. I'd rather build everything in Kista or some other places.
