Cool. The HMS Illustrious of the Royal Navy

From Wikipedia:

Beginning on 8 June, she took part in the exercise Loyal Arrow in northern Sweden. The exercise lasted until 16 June. On 17 June 2009, she arrived in Tallinn. On 27 June 2009 she was in the harbour of Oslo, Norway.

Sorry for off topic, but have you noticed that Google have actually taken driven all the way into Tjuvholmen:
http://maps.google.no/?ll=59.908098,...,0,-29.59&z=17

Shame they didn't do it later though. That's the problem with streetview in Oslo nowdays: They get outdated so fast due to all the constructions going on.

Yeah, but some views will probably be updated. Most of the street view pictures are taken in 2009, but they returned in 2010 to get e.g. Operatunnelen.

They also need to update their satellite pictures.

I fail to recognize the ridicolousness. These buildings aren't meant as a standalone seafront skyline. They're simply vertical buildings with interesting architecture. We all agree that some of them should be taller and some should be less fat. It should be a lesson for the decisionmakers, that knowledge trumps nimbyism. Unfortunately, neither the people in PBE or bystyret seem to understand that much about skylines and positive and negative effects of building heights.
Regarding the "Barcode project in Oslo". I really like the diversity in colors, window sizes, height, cladding and the location. Best "skyline in the nordics so far, imo. If they decide to build even taller behind in the future it would be totally awesome.

Compare this to "Kalvebod Brygge in Copenhagen and you know what i mean. (Good vs Bad)

There are plans, but as usual many people are bitching and whining about the proposal and delaying the proses.

Hopefully those people start realizing that with this new barcode it would only improve the skyline, since this is a very good "foundation" to a great skyline. How is the general reception in Oslo for the barcode? Are people happy with it? If they are, which I would think, it should be easier to push the project further.

All the papers are extremely negative towards it and the comments in most news papers seems to reflects that. But then again these papers are usually negative towards every god damn project in the city, which in turn is why it is so fucking hard to plan anything in this city as everything now matter how good it is is being met with comments like "oh my good, the wall", "Why don't the people who want to live in big city just move" etc. I don't know how the general opinion on the projects outside of the papers though, but most people I have spoken to at least are more positive towards the project/projects in general.

Does this count as a skyline shot?

There is an eight floor building on Rūpniecības street just opposite the RIMI supermarket. I got there just by walking up and getting on the roof. No special skills were needed - everything is accessible if you do it in a confident manner.

Vow, another interesting spot! Is it from Orthodox church in Āgenskalns?

Speaking about churches... Here you see how God is speaking with the ones in Riga. He calls press conferences time by time.

Another Oslo picture from the time when the city was named Kristiania (a much prettier name imho). Credits stands in the lower left corner.

Pretty maybe, but Oslo is closer to norse, and our heritage, as opposed to a city named after a part of Copenhagen named after a short little twit. Shallow much?
