Lugano - Graffiti Problem On Historical Buildings

Hi, i don't know if anybody has noticed this if they have ever visited Lugano, but there are some serious graffiti problems on the historical buildings smack in the centre of the city, even with all the CCTV cameras around. I thought i'd take a few photos of it as i was in the area yesterday.

This is only a tiny portion of the amount of historical buildings covered in graffiti in Lugano, and let's not talk about the residential districts. This problem is getting worse every year, and it certainly looks like the council doesn't really care. Shame.

Happens all over Europe. People have no respect for history and call it art. Tags are horrible. Graffiti's can be an art.

Recently saw three expensive-looking books named "Tags as art in Riga", about those damn taggers and graffiti artists. Only in rare cases their work adds some value, in most cases this is garbage or something like spitting or womiting on street.
This is sad that they manage to find financing for their trash, while decent kinds of art struggle through.

Yes, and this is in areas with alot of surveillence, i think you can picture how bad the situation is in areas where medium wealth or poor people live in this city, where there is no care about graffiti, gang violence, trash and drug dealers.

Most people think Switzerland hasn't got any of these problems, that's why i came here from Italy, but it has and plenty, well, i'm speaking of Lugano, i haven't been in other Swiss cities so i wouldn't know how it is there.

I have nothing against graffiti if it adds value to an urban landscape, but this is just crap done by a bunch of losers who think its cool. its a shame because these buildings are beautiful by themselves and this so called "graffiti" doesn't add anything positive at all.
Graffiti itself as an art form started in gritty, oppressive urban environments like the Bronx and Brooklyn. People were able to create beautiful art and meaning in unconventional places like ugly subway cars and abandoned or neglected buildings that were so common in urban ghettos in the 70s (and still are). Again the people who think that spraying mindless junk on beautiful historic buildings is cool really don't know the history and the significance of graffiti. In my opinion its the kind of stuff that makes people think all graffiti is bad and ugly. But there are people with real talent out there who are just getting screwed by stupid taggers. Ok I'm off my soapbox now

It's a shame... Same (if not worse) with Berlin.
They're leaving their shit even on monuments and memorials.
Those sprayers should be punished much harder!
