Forum Rules and other FAQs

Membership is not a right, it is a privilege.

To participate in our online forums, you must agree to follow our rules and policies. We encourage active debate and discussion and free speech, but remember that this forum is private property and you are a guest here. Your membership is not a right, it is a privilege given to you by the owners of this forum. You therefore agree that you will cooperate with any requests of the forum Moderators and/or Administrators, and give serious attention to any suggestions or recommendations you receive from them. You also acknowledge that the staff of SkyscraperCity reserves the right to delete any message(s) or portion(s) thereof.

Moderators

Moderators at this discussion board have the duty to enforce the forum rules listed below. They are also empowered to make positive actions that improve the general well-being of the board and its community. Therefore, be aware that Moderators are able to take any necessary and appropriate actions. Moderators answer for their official actions to their fellow Moderators and to the Administrators.

User Complaints

Users may disagree with the decisions or actions of the Moderators and/or Administrators, but disagreements, criticism and the like are not to be aired within the discussion topics. They may be discussed through private messaging.

By registering and participating here you agree to respect and abide by the following standards:

1. You agree not to be disruptive. The following are some but not all guidelines on the behavior required to comply with this rule. This is not an exhaustive set of rules and it is left to the discretion of Moderators and Administrators to decide what is and is not acceptable behavior.

• Do not post material that is knowingly defamatory, illegal, abusive, threatening, harassing, or generally viewed by a reasonable person as being a derogatory epithet.

• You will not advocate what is generally accepted as illegal activity. If a moderator cannot readily determine if a post is a joke, then it will be treated as serious material and subject to deletion/editing.

• Comments about other users, insults and flames are not acceptable. SkyscraperCity tries to be an intellectually-stimulating environment in which users exchange ideas in the spirit of discovery. Poisoning that environment is highly discouraged. Please exercise tact and refrain from insulting others or disrupting ongoing discussions with inflammatory speech.

• Hyperbolic or overly-emotive language, overt negativity and imagery, such as saying "Muslims are morons", are generally discouraged.

• Off-topic posting or hijacking of threads is inappropriate.

• Calling a fellow poster "delusional", "deceitful", or a similarly inflammatory accusation, is not acceptable even if you believe that the accusation is true.

• In general, any material that is deliberately goading should not be posted. Members will refrain from retaliating to inflammatory material with further insults or inappropriate comments.

• You will not post material that is sexually or otherwise obscene and has little or no educational purpose or significant relevance to an ongoing and legitimate discussion.

• If you encounter a post that you believe contravenes the rules of the board then you are encouraged to use the 'Report this post' function to alert a forum moderator.

• Moderators and Administrators do not monitor Private Messages (PMs). However, you agree not to use the Private Message system to circumvent general internet etiquette regarding insults, threats or harassment. Should such abuse come to the attention of the Moderators or Administrators, it will be properly dealt with.

2. Expression of hate. We do not tolerate hateful messages. This includes things such as racism, sexism, xenophobia, religious bashing, open support of terrorism, homophobia, ultra nationalism or provincialism. If you generally have a problem with an entire group of people because of their nationality, religion, race or sexuality, that is your problem. Don't make it ours too. This rule is especially applicable to forumers who hijack or troll a thread/local forum, basically just to bash the topic or participants of the thread/local forum. This also applies to forumers who persistently engage in posting news articles with an agenda as identified by the SSC staff.

3. No Spamming. Do not deliberately create repetitive posts or threads in the same forum. You may do so in 2 separate forums, at the moderator's discretion and as long as it is within the forum's content.

4. No Advertising. No creating threads or multiple posts of any kind about your own site, a product you sell, a group you belong to etc, without prior approval of the site Administration. You will not advertise or solicit other members to buy, sell or peruse any products or services through this discussion forum. Chain letters and junk mail are strictly prohibited. Doing so will likely result in a ban.

5. Respect Privacy. You will not violate a person's privacy by publishing information that could be considered private and personal without first having obtained that person's permission.

6. No foul language: in any portion of a user's title, signature, location, etc.

7. Thread titles should be uniform, kept short, simple and concise. As has been noticed, it seems that thread titles are now being unnecessarily used to serve as status symbols.

Please remember, this site exists first and foremost for members to discuss and share information about the world's skyscrapers, cities and urban environments. Everything that falls outside the scope of this is secondary. SSC is an online community, and just like in real life, everyone has to be responsible for their conduct. The staff have dedicated themselves to making this a pleasant and conducive environment for our members, and only ask that our members play their part to keep this place harmonious and successful.

Discipline and Moderation. All SSC staffers have carte blanche authority with regards to discipline and moderating the threads in their forum. However, the following denote our intended procedures:

When encountered, we will generally lock an offending thread or delete offending content and may choose to PM the forumer(s) involved with a warning/explanation. Additional problems can result in a Brigging from SSC for up to two weeks (during this time, a person can only view the forums and cannot post or vote). Further disciplinary problems will likely result in a forumer either being banned from SSC permanently. Brigged forumers are not to re-register another account while brigged. If caught, all accounts will be banned. Likewise for forumers who register multiple accounts to vote in polls etc.

Contact. Users who have questions about the action taken towards a particular thread, concerns about any forums or threads, or comments about how the forums are being run, managed and moderated should talk to the forum moderators indicated at the bottom right hand corner of the forum page. If there is a local moderator(s) assigned to a particular section, you are advised to approach that person(s) first, before approaching the other SSC mods or site administrators.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

You agree that if it is deemed by the Moderators and/or Administrators that any of these rules are abused, the Moderators and/or Administrators are empowered to take all necessary and appropriate actions. For example, the offending message may be moved to another thread or forum, be split out of a thread, have sections deleted from it, or be deleted in its entirety--all without prior notice. If you repeatedly violate any of these rules or otherwise seek to disrupt the board then the Administrators will disable your account.

You recognize the real-time nature of this forum and thus, the moderators of SkyscraperCity cannot always monitor the contents of posted messages, and we depend upon you to inform us when participants or their messages violate this registration agreement. You also recognize that we cannot respond immediately to such notices and that some time may pass before any action is taken.

You recognize that the SSC Staff does not vouch for or warrant the accuracy of any information posted here, and that any message expresses the views of its author, not necessarily the views of this forum or any entity associated with this forum.

You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless this forum, Jelsoft Enterprises Limited (the makers of the bulletin board software), and their agents with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s). The SSC Staff also reserves the right to reveal your identity (or other identifying information) in the event of legal action and/or what is deemed by the Administrators to be a serious complaint arising from any message posted by you.

B. Posting Photos from your Computer
Unfortunately it isn't possible to upload images along with your post. In order to post images, they must be hosted somewhere and then linked to in your post. There are a number of web sites where you can host your image and use the link in your post:...or find more free image hosts here.

For this tutorial, you will learn how to post photos uploaded through Imageshack: www.imageshack.us

I. Go to www.imageshack.us , click on "Browse" and select your desired photo. Then confirm your choice and click on "host it!"

II. Copy the direct link to the image

III. On the posting area, click on the "Insert Image" icon

IV. Paste the URL on the pop-up script
(IE)

(Firefox)

V. Post it and Voila!
