The Castro District is the gay area with Castro Street as main street.

Power house cable cars
Cable cars don't have their own motor. A cable cars grasps a continously moving steel cable under the street. Electric motors in the power house drive all four steel cables (for four streets). In the 1890s San Francisco had many street car lines, now only three lines are operational.

35. Every street (Hyde, California, Mason, Powell) that has a cable car line has a separate moving steel cable.



Golden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge completed in 1937 with a span of 1400 meters. Iconic are the art-deco-towers and the special paint color ('International Orange').

I hear that a lot but don't necessarily agree. San Francisco looks like an East Coast city at street level. Great shots and I'm impressed how they are not the usual touristy bunch. Looks like you got a taste of the classic SF climate. Philadelphia regrets selling so many streetcars to SF now that Philly is bringing them back.

I am amazed by all the garages at street level. I wish they would put a moratorium on such a devastating trend. There is some fantastic architecture in SF and it saddens me to see it bastardized.

I love San Francisco and I also love Oakland.

Nice perspective. I live close to San francisco, and I never take pictures like you did, they are incredible, lots of details. I'll try to capture some images just the way you did next time--close up.
