What do you think all those monstrous parking garages at the base of the new skyscrapers are for anyway?

We've actually discussed this at length in the Miami forum. Somebody suggested that the ugly, monstrous parking garages could one day save the city as much as many people hate them. We can't put them underground because we have such a high water table to begin with. It is the same reason Metrorall is an elevated raill system. We can't go underground here.

I wish we would undertake a similar planning project here in Phoenix...but alas, political bullshit always gets in the way with development here. I love the high-rise condo planning/buiilding, albeit some of the designs are a bit repetitive.

It also seems interesting that with so much living area in those condos, the streets look as desolate pedestrian-wise in Miami as they do here in Phoenix, maybe even more so. Could be the car-inspired city spreading outline?

Yes, I think Miami is a lot like Los Angeles in that regard. The streets are slowly becoming more lively as more units slowly fill up.

I was hoping they had made more progress than this with the curtain wall over the past two weeks, but as you can see, the crown is coming along.
