becuz istanbul was very easy to conquer. with ships, tanks and planes.but ankara is on the central and enemies only can conquer with planes.

When Ottoman empire colapsed in 1920's, Istanbul wasn't safe, Ankara become the new capital.

That's a simple definition. There's more than that. One of them is, Ankara was choosen because Istanbul was the symbol of empire, on the other hand Ankara was the symbol of republic, therefore it became the capital and almost built from zero with the rising values of modern republic.
