Great thread! There are several synagogues recntly built and u/c here in Germany, the 2nd fastest growing Jewish community in the world after Israel!
Some communities do still have their old synagogues that survived the Nazis,... Essen is one example.
The most beautiful synagogue I've seen so far is the one in Budapest!!!

Amsterdam has been home for many Jews for centuries. Although they were treated a different from other people, they always feeled save and at home in Amsterdam. In the local dialect there are still Yiddish words used. The nickname of Amsterdam is "Mokum" which means "place" or "safe haven" in Yiddish.

Sadly many were deported to nazi concentration camps during WW2.

Great Synagogue from 1670 (4 synagogues + expansions), today the complex is in use as the Jewish Historical Museum

Amsterdam Esnoga 1671-1675 (It was said that it was the biggest Synagogue of it's time)

Uilenburger Synagogue 1765

Synagogue Gerard Doustraat 1892

Synagogue Lekstraat 1936-1937

New Synagogue, the official contruction will start on 11 december 2008 (finished in 2010)

Jews have been in Persia since biblical times. Remember Daniel and the lions? The first (second?) diaspora?

Tomb of the founder of the Persian Empire.Cyrus the Great.

Cyrus the Great is the only gentile to be designated as a messiah, divinely-appointed king in the bible.

Look for the silver dome n the middle of South Beach toward the bottom of the photograph. It is very close to the ocean. That is Temple Emanu-El.
