Sorry but I think this choice is a shame for Istanbul ,wonderful city that merits really really better. Cheap architecture of factory without any creativity.
I call that : ARCHITECTURE OF CONTEMPT.
When I think this is the terminal of a woman's name airport...
Date of completion for "this" ?
An excellent introduction for the European Capital of Culture...

You are right. And guess what, government has rented this airport for 3.1 Billion $ for 23 years to Limak holding for operating. Pretty high value compared to other airport operating bids. So there was no reason for not choosing a better design.

This design will only serve to the idea, Sabiha Gökçen Airport = Cheap Flights Airport..

@Messi: It looks like in the model drawing/sketch, there are 5 equal wave-domes, whereas in the construction pic, I see 3 large, 3 small ones. I'm totally confused at this point!

Şu anda terminal inşaatının yüzde 60'ı, otel inşaatının yüzde 20'si, VIP tesisinin yüzde 45'i, yakıt hidrant alanı, apron, viyadük ve yolların yüzde 60'lık kısmı tamamlandı.

Sabiha Gökçen Marmaray'a metroyla bağlanacak

If I were u, i wouldn't care the design in the pictures. I guess the project changed. If the numbers are true, they ''HAVE TO'' change the interior design cos it looks like an ordinary shitty bus terminal.

It's just a low-cost airport and it's quite good for its purpose. Don't forget Sbiha Gökcen is/will be Istanbul's 3rd airport after the new gigantic one in Silivri and Atatürk int'l.

The architecture of this terminal is not only depressing, ugly, kitsch or very-very cheap...
I think it's just a shame for Istanbul.
By me one of the reasons why this airport is treated like this is because of it's location : the EAST of Istanbul.
There is a constant in the turkish willingness and imaginary : GO WEST !
There's perhaps more inhabitants in the eastern part of the metropolis than in the western, the urban extension to the east goes ,at least, until Izmit.
In a demographic and urban point of view , it's logical the second big airport be located in the eastern part of this huge conurbation.
But the obstacle is mainly psychological : "we must go west even if we have all the reasons to go east !"
Everybody that studies seriously the geographic situation of SAW airport understands easily that this location is perfect to built an airport LARGELY SUFFICIENT to cover the future needs of this metropolis for NEXT DECADES.
The 3thrd airport is a TOTALLY ARTIFICIALLY NEED created to avoid using the free location existent because it's on the east .
You should study the developpements of Roissy-CDG airport (30 kms north-east of Paris), 60 000 000 passengers/year...and it's not finish.

If someone can convince me that the location of SAW is not ideal to become the platform that Istanbul needs in the far future , I listen to you.

Iyi geceler.

Hmmm...is something decided about this "new gigantic airport in Silivri" ? Never heard talking seriously about this.

PS : I want to believe that the real origins of Sabiha Gökçen are not another psychological obstacle to a dignified treatment of Sabiha Gökçen Uluslararası Havaalanı .

When I landed on one of Paris' low-cost airports I had the feeling of being in a sportshall rather than in a terminal building. I don't say because you're from Paris but because it was my first and only low-cost airport expierence. I am quite sure a lot of countries would be glad of having such an airport and we are not the U.A.E so that everything must be the most expensive, biggest and tallest etc... It is quite good as a low-cost and third airport imho!

And there are very serious developments about a new airport in Silivri. Atatürk Int'l exceeded its capacity so Sabiha Gökcen will be able to handle some 10 million passengers more which gives some extra period about 5-7 years to build the new airport.

At this point it's the 2nd airport, however after the construction of the gigantous Silivri Airport, which is only planned right now, it will be the 3rd airport. By 3rd, we mean smallest in capacity...
