Great to hear that Mysore has two concrete runways. Any idea about the length of the runways? When did they concretize the runway of Mysore?

MYSORE: Five weeks after the formal launch of work on upgrading the Mysore airport near here, earthwork for building two runways and construction of a boundary wall are proceeding at a brisk pace.

Deputy General Manager of Airports Authority of India (AAI) M.N.N. Rao told The Hindu that a survey to construct a terminal building, which would accommodate 200 passengers, had been completed. "We are now functioning from the old terminal building. We will soon set up a site office before bringing down the old terminal building," he said.

But I don't think these are good enough to have viable traffic for an airport.

New aiport terminal building to be ready in a month

Quote:
* Airport director says its inauguration date will soon be fixed

MANGALORE: The new integrated terminal building of the Mangalore Airport at Kenjar will be operational in a month's time, according to Peter Abraham, director of the airport.

In an informal chat with presspersons on the sidelines of the arrival of the Delhi-Mangalore-Kozhikode-Delhi flight at the Bajpe airport on Sunday, he said the date for its formal inauguration would be fixed within three weeks. He said the State Government had laid a two-lane concrete road connecting the new facility with the Mangalore-Bajpe-Kateel-Mulky Road, which can be used as an entry road and the zilla panchayat road (towards Dakkan Park building) can be used for exit. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) was laying a 400-m road to connect the new terminal building with the zilla panchayat road. It would be completed in a month, he said. The AAI was also widening the perimeter road inside the airport to facilitate smooth movement of fuel tankers. This was also expected to be completed in a month, he said. Mr. Abraham said that even if these road works were not completed as stipulated, it would not come in the way of inaugurating the terminal building.

With the opening of the new terminal building at Kenjar, the distance between the city and the airport will be reduced by about eight kilometres. The airport terminal at Bajpe is about 22 km from the city.

Union Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel had laid the foundation stone for the Rs. 147-crore integrated terminal building on October 3, 2006. The new terminal building has been designed to handle 500 passengers at a time and five aircraft can be parked at a time in the apron. In addition, it has facility to park 300 cars.
The Hindu

But airport road seems to be stuck up with Kavoor-Marakada stretch being complete and Marakada-Maravoor bridge stretch without much progress.

AI launches direct flight from Mangalore to Delhi
