I don't get this tasteless copying of old famous cities like Venice or Paris. I mean this is a cool city, with some lovely old architecture, as well as new. Why do they need to do this? They could build something of their own in old style if thats what they want but copying one place, i can't understand.
And those canals look like swimming pools.
Otherwise: lovely pics of a very nice place, so please don't be offended, cheers.

The Venetian created a replica of their Las Vegas casino in Macau. You can ask the Americans why they didn't opt for a more local design!

Maybe these are nothing but hommages, but I think each city should look for its own identity and style, even if they're heavily influenced by France or Italy. Nevertheless, it's a lovely city with great architecture.

I personally think the owners just wanted to replicate a piece of Vegas to appeal to Chinese gamblers. They no longer needed to fly across the ocean to get that experience.

this building in Macau,

reminds me of this one in my hometown of Porto Alegre - Brasil which is now a museum,

both are of portuguese architecture obviously.

Apparently in 2006 Macau overtook Las Vegas as the worlds number 1 gambling city.

Would love to see more of this emerging metropolis. It's quite an amazing city, with a history that dates back more than 400 years!
