In Portugal the A1 (in Portuguese: A1 - Auto-estrada do Norte) is the principal motorway. It connects Lisbon to Porto, the country's second-most important city, and serves other important cities like Coimbra, Aveiro and Leiria. A1 is operated by Brisa - Auto-Estradas de Portugal S.A. (www.brisa.pt).Construction on A1 began in 1961 and was completed in 1991. It extends 301 km, comprising 26 Iinterchages, 7 service areas and 2 leisure rest areas.

A1 is part of the main road system IP1 (that also includes motorways A3, A20, A12, A2 and A22 - it extends 847 km) and European Road E01.

The definition of a motorway is somewhat different here than in most other countries, because rural areas often have so little traffic that many motorways have at-grade intersections with rural roads.

Longest future motorway (within the next five years) - Metroad 5 / National Highway 31 / National Highway M31 - 840 km

This starts as the South Western Motorway (Metroad 5) a fully grade-separated limited access road at Sydney International Airport (the final section connecting it to the CBD was never built, although motorway-standard access to the CBD is now provided via the Eastern Distributor tunnel) and goes west through Australia's longest twin road tunnels (4 kilometres), thereafter continuing west as a surface motorway to Liverpool, where a set of traffic signals was only recently converted to a full diamond interchange.

From here it continues roughly southwest as the South Western Freeway, with the route number changing from Metroad 5 to National Highway 31 as it passes Campbelltown. It remains fully grade separated to Berrima, providing a total distance of 117 km grade separation. From here it remains motorway standard, with some at-grade intersections, to Coolac, where a bypass is currently being planned. After Coolac it becomes an at-grade motorway again to Gundagai, at which point it becomes single carriageway in order to cross the Sheahan Bridge; a second bridge is currently under construction.

In southern NSW, it loses motorway status for about another 140 km and passes through various rural towns. This is the longest section of the highway not currently considered a motorway, but the Federal Government hopes to upgrade this vital link between Australia's two largest cities to motorway standard by 2012.

In Albury, the road becomes a motorway again as the newly completed Albury/Wodonga Hume Freeway, which crosses the Victorian border and is subsequently considered a motorway for its entire length, until it terminates on Melbourne's ring road (M80) - though again with some at-grade intersections, one of which near the southern terminus is currently being grade separated.

As an aside, when the North Coast Motorway and the tunnel connecting it to Sydney's ring road are completed - which the Federal Government is hoping to achieve by 2017 - there will be a continuous motorway running from Melbourne to Brisbane, which would be over 2000 kilometres long.

I won't give any information regarding the longest existing grade-separated motorway, because the vast majority of Australia's motorways are continually being extended, and those which aren't would not be candidates for the title of longest motorway in any case. Potential candidates would include the M1 (Princes Freeway West / West Gate Freeway / CityLink / Monash Freeway / Princes Freeway East) in Melbourne, the South Western Freeway between Sydney and Berrima, the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway and the M1 (Pacific Motorway / Gateway Motorway / Bruce Highway) near Brisbane.

Have you got an idea when they start with the "green part" of the A1?

section from Ravča to Ploče is actually allready u/c. i'm not sure, but i think so. anyway, it won't be opened so soon as section Šestanovac - Ravča (blue one). so, real green section starts from Ploče (about 20 km south from blue ending) and it is only planned in this moment. due to economical crises in the world it is not welcome to predict because anything can happen. i can be so free and predict by myself - reaching Dubrovnik 2015, reaching MNE border 2018.

The longest continuous motorway in Sweden is the E4 between Toftaholm in the south of Sweden to Gävle which is some 180 kms to the north of Stockholm. The distance is 585 km. If you disregard the 31 km of 2+1 road between Toftaholm and Kĺnna, the E4 stretches as a motorway all the way down to Helsingborg for a total distance of 738 km (minus 31). There are currently no plans to close the gap that I know of.

The longest in South Africa by route number is the N1 between Vanderbijlpark and Nylstroom, around 260km or so. However, the N1 route changes between different freeways twice, as can be seen from the map.

If you're after the longest stretch of freeway on one road, then it's the N3 between Durban and Ladysmith, around 245km.

For definition purposes, a freeway is a dual-carriageway with grade separated interchanges. We also get what we call "single-carriageway freeways", but I've decided not to count those.
