They also didn't differentiate between technical faults and human errors, which were the direct cause of the Spanish and Chinese accidents. Same here in this case the accident could have been prevented if the conductor had better communication with the station dispatch.

Hello, guys. Any news on the new Honam and Suseo high-speed rail lines and HSR tracks in downtowns of Daejeon and Daegu?

Brazil probably just wants the Japanese system.

Services should start February. Apparently they are testing the connection.

Great! How many services per day are we expecting here? Will there be other mainline services using it too?

Some footage of the Honam Sancheon trains being built and run. Looks like they went with the red paint scheme posted a few pages back; it's not my favorite, but it looks alright.

That looks very impressive. Is that the Hyundai Rotem plant in Seoul?

To be honest, I don't know. I tried translating the description, but it didn't say.

Interesting factoid: Google translate translates "Honam" as "Hunan"--the two both mean south of the lake, but of course one is Korean and the other Chinese.

Political meddling impacting KTX- red ink issues forth

Recent SBS news report about KTX services on the Gyeonjeon Line in the southern portion of the country. There is a 28km long stretch with four stops (Changwonjungang, Changwon, Masan, and Haman) which are closely spaced by HSR standards, for example only 3.5km between Changwon and Masan. KTX services take 22 minutes on this stretch, while Mugungwha services take about 8 minutes longer, at 30 minutes, but the fare is 1/3 of the KTX fare (8400 vs. 2600 won). There was local political pressure to have these KTX stops at the expense of profitability.

This line is meant to be extended west right? To 순천 then 목포? Will every KTX train on the full line stop at every station or some services skip stations (like 신경주/울산 on the 부산 line) ?

First daytime footage of HEMU-430x running at speed through Cheonan-Asan (though not at full 430km/h).

From Railway Gazette:

Hyundai Rotem awarded high speed train contracts
20 Mar 2014

Korean high speed train

SOUTH KOREA: Hyundai Rotem has been awarded two contracts to supply 300 km/h high speed trainsets.

A 324bn won contract covers 10 KTX-Sancheon trainsets for the Suseo High Speed Railway subsidiary of Korail, which will operate the 60 km high speed line now under construction to serve the southeastern part of the Seoul conurbation.

Deliveries of the 10-car trainsets with 410 seats are scheduled for November 2016. SHSR will use them to operate two services from Suseo, which will join the existing Gyongbu high speed line at Pyeongtak. One service will run to Busan via Daejeon and Daegu, while the other will diverge at Osong onto the Honam High Speed Line to Mokpo, which is also under construction. The Suseo - Busan route will be 401 km, while Suseo - Mokpo is slightly shorter at 354 km.

Meanwhile, Korail has placed a 494bn won order for 15 trainsets to operate on the 120 km Wonju - Gangneung route when it opens in late 2017. These 10-car trainsets will be used to carry visitors from Incheon International Airport to the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

Ooooo that livery is amazing. I hope they keep it for the production sets!

Seems funny to say that Rotem has been "awarded" the contracts though. I highly doubt that there were any other contenders for the bid.

No tender indeed, it always has been mutual agreement betwen Korail and Rotem

Interesting to see they are ordering another batch of powercars and trailers KTX-II's, even though they already have been testing with the HEMU-430X since 2011. Wikipedia even mentions that it's production version KTX-III is due to enter service in 2015.
