Anyways, it's definitely one of those HK moments.
It was a very different HK team performance, deserved to win.

What? That makes no sense...do you mean 3-3 and then 4-2?

Oh

I was just replying KaiTak post title.

The 90min+30min ET score was 1:1, and it went into penalty shootout.

The shootout result was 4:2, HK won.

The final score was then 5:3 (1:1 + 4:2)

Actually I was one of 31884 spectators yesterday, so it's a shame that I made such a silly written mistake here.

By the way, I went there to support HK team and my friend's brother who played in the game yesterday, that little guy is the one who stuttered first in penalty shootout, his spot kick was unfortunately saved by Japanese goalkeeper. I had lunch with him today and told him that his brother and I are all proud of him, then he cried again.

OMG, you know Au Chung!!!
He played very well in the whole competition, except that one final plenty shot.
I think it's not just you and his brother, but the whole HK is proud of him and his teammate.
This is football, that's okay he made one mistake, but he had the whole team to cover his butt. This time he had 30k people in the stadium and the whole city, an advantage you got for playing at home.

It's definitely once in a life time event to support your own national team in such an event and atmosphere. You're so lucky.
I wish we could have more of this opportunities to unit everyone by our football national team, a scale that no other sports are competitive.
It has been so wrong in the past decade all the away teams came and got the home support, but the home team got the away. Even many of them were only invitation games, but still...

Haha you even know his nickname, you must be quite familiar with local football.

I was extremely lucky to be one of 31884 spectators yesterday, witnessing the historical moment for HK. I was on the verge of crying when HK won the penalty shootout. It seemed like everyone in the stadium are all in the same boat struggling for the gold medal for the whole city. Some people there cried and hugged everyone they saw (even strangers) when HK won the game, I was told by my friend that this match was also broadcasted in 6 channels (TVB Jade, J2, Jade HD, Pearl, ATV and RTHK), it's definitely an unforgettable night for all HKers, I will remember 1212.

Not really, just keep following the news once in a while.
It's difficult to do overseas when the media doesn't care about the local matches that much, but spending more time in England, Spain, Italy and so on European leagues.

I actually woke at 4am to listen the live broadcast from RTHK over the internet, then I had to leave home just after Chan7 scored in the second half.
I was so eager to learn about the result that I called back home in HK and asked on my train ride to New York.

I guess Au Chung will cry again if I tell him my friend who currently lives in North America woke at 4am for the match and called back home for the final result when he's on train ride to New York. I found that you're extremely patriotic like Rachmininov, HKT and me.To be honest, I have been on business trip for a week, but I chose flying back to HK last Friday just bacause of the match and Au Chung. As a HKer, I consider it a responsibility to desperately support our team.

As for the match, I think you can find it on youtube, otherwise, I can search for BT files for you.

Love that pictures. Too bad there was another acid throwing on Saturday night in CWB and grabbed a few front pages from the football team on Sunday paper. If I were in HK, I think I would have had purchased all the newspaper for collection.

For the match, already watched it until 1am last night.
Teared after the shoot-out and watching the prize ceremony at the end.
Usually you don't get too excited into the match when you watch a recorded match, especially those you've known the result ahead. But this match was just different, somehow all those excitements were still there.
Had never experienced one like this match since got into the hobby long ago (almost 15 years now), even with the team I have supported long since then.
(Like many HKers, my favorite is also an English team )

I guess that's the patriotic part of football that drives the emotion, which you can't find in an overseas league club team.
Something our generation or even the one before us hasn't had.
The last competitive one was "5.19" in 1985 when HK played China in Beijing. (Back then it was really two counties...)

Having your national team winning in the final of a real international competition at home is different from playing the final in those Chinese New Year invitation games.

p.s. "Extremely" or something stronger is probably the right adverb. The reason I went to New York so early was because I was heading to NY to take the HKSAR civil service CRE exams. Still directly related to HK.

Never seen it put like that, as penalty shootouts don't actually count as goals.

Hey, at least he got the ball towards the net and the keeper had to make the save. He could have missed the net completely or hit the post.

Ya it would be much better if the acid throwing happened on Sunday night (just joking). I went downstairs for the newspaper last Sunday and found that all of the Apple Daily, Oriental Daily, Sun Daily, MingPao and even Singtao were sold out (probably caused by the "gold medal effect"), At the end I could only get Apple, Oriental, Mingpao and South China Morning Post in New Town Plaza.

As I said, the reason why I flied back to HK for the match was just because of HK team and Au Chung, instead of the possibility of getting gold medal. To be honest, I never expected HK would beat Japan, when I entered the stadium, I thought the final result should be around JPN 2:0 HK and JPN 3:0 HK, it's already satisfactory if HK could get 1 score from Japan. But finally, everything (result, morale, team spirit, atmosphere, support from audience, patriotic fervour) was perfect that night.

I definitely know how you feel after watching the shoot-out and the prize ceremony. I was also on the verge of crying when HK won the shoot-out and I couldn't fall asleep that night as my brain was totally dominated by all those excitements, I reckon my feeling would be even stronger as one of the players is my friend. I have strong feeling that there will be more 519 and 1212 in near future.

One more thing, can you show me the source of the whole match, I wanna download it. Thanks. By the way, I hope you would pass the CRE exam and I will treat you a meal once you got a decent job in HK.

He told me that the whole team went to a restaurant for celebration dinner after the match, when they entered the restaurant, all of the customers and waitors could recognize them and gave them applause for nearly 15 second.
In my subjective opinion, he is the most talented player I ever seen in HK, he already played very well when he was a kid. I hope he would become the soul of our national team in the future.

By the way, I think it's definitely not enough to just watch the uploaded videos here, you should try searching for the whole match from internet.

那個時刻,一字記之曰「亂」,腦袋裏盡是一片空白,簡直是忙翻天!到直播工作暫告一段落和動筆寫稿之間的一個小空擋時,我走到記者室的洗手間洗了把臉,洗手間裏沒有人,死寂與剛才的一片喧鬧成了強烈對比。靜下來的這時我才想到;
