Finnish explorers:

Gustaf Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld (was a Finnish geologist, mineralogist and arctic explorer and a member of the prominent Finland-Swedish Nordenskiöld family of scientists. He is most remembered for the Vega expedition along the northern coast of Eurasia.

The A.E. Nordenskiöld Collection of maps (one of the three largest along with those found in London and Paris) is located at the University of Helsinki, and it is included in the Memory of the World Register of UNESCO.

Born in the Grand Duchy of Finland at the time it was a part of the Russian Empire, he was later forced to live in political exile in Sweden because of his political activity.)

Herman Diedrich Spöring Jr.

(Accompanied James Cook on the 1769 HM Bark Endeavour expedition to Australia; Cook named Spöring Island on the coast of New Zealand in his honor.)

Adolf Karlovich Etolin (born Arvid Adolf Etholén) (An island in Alaska, Etolin Island, is named after Etolin, as are a cape, a point, and a mountain.)

He looks insane! If I was a director I would typecast him as a serial killer or something like that!

Our Lucia and Christmas season traditions:

Glögg

Lussekatter

Pepparkakor

(Although glögg and lussekatter from the beginning are german like a lot of traditions in the Nordics, don't know about pepparkakor but why shouldn't they have been imported from Germany too?)
