Yeah I love the design of this frothy 2008 creature but it's way to the back of projects like 56 Leonard, which is still just a swimming pool.

A Libeskind tower? I don't like Libeskind, he made a disgusting Freedom Tower, which was fortunately replaced by a beautiful one. I think this man should be in jail for trying to make NY's skyline hideous

I was pretty much sure this thing was dead. I know one thing it's still pretty ugly.

the design is very special and i love it but as someone already proposed, it would fit better in downtown, when the wtc is finished.. but still then, im not sure about it if it fits into the n.y. skyline..but you never know, with all the other projects, and if the 'dragonfly' would be built, it may be nice..

by the way if they build it in the current location, i prefer the shorter version

IMO i won't see such a tacky design in the NY skyline. There are so many POS's everywhere in the city, that could be razed and redeveloped, so there is really no need to ruin a masterpiece like this. But IF they need a tower in this particular location urgently, they should build something with style to compliment with the rest of Union Square.

I will try and find the article later, but I want to clear this up as a lot of people are commenting on the design of the tower. The developer said at some point last year that they were still interested in building this tower when the market improved, however they also said the current renderings which had been released to public in 2008 did not necessarily represent the current status of the building.

So essentially, there is the possibility that this underwent a massive redesign. Personally, I absolutely adore the current design. Madison Square Park has a small display of high rise architecture but within that small display, a really incredible number of architectural styles and this would only add to that.

Again, this tower is alive according to the developer about 8-12 months ago, when the market was much worse than it is now, and from their own words the tower under went design changes. So let's wait and see what the developer comes up with, and any news will be posted here.

Totally agree. I love the green concept (not sure about climate issues inside the building though), but right next to the MetLife this is just the wrong location. It would look perfect next to the Central Park or somewhere else. But please don't spoil the beautiful traditional skyscraper ensemble of this corner with something that spacy.

Even the initially planned MetLife North extension wouldn't harm the ensemble quite as much.

Does anyone else this tower looks somewhat similar to the Al-Hamra Tower in Kuwait? I mean, both have the same basic volumetry, they're an extruded rectangle with curved corners and then diagonally sectioned.

Actually, they kinda do, if you look carefully. Not as a whole, but the basic idea sure is similar.

I like the trees in this building. I always thought there was not enough nature in Manhattan, so this might be a welcome change. One thing I hate about this building is it's size. from what I heared a building as tall as the Willis Tower was planned to stand there, but they stopped it for financial problems. I think they should make this building to be like 1400 feet. the footprints should be able to handle it since such a building was originaly planned there.

^ Ah well, but I think the one you're talking about was planned for a different location one lot further. Compare to my post. I hope I'm not mistaken here.

I somewhat agree. The old Freedom Tower looked horrible and so does this. It just looks strange, having trees visible inside a building?
