Sorry for all the lovers of this tower, but I don't think it fits New York. I think it's a cool tower but on the wrong place. This tower belongs in a special business zone with all new architecture ( like canary warf or la defense) New York needs more buildings from stone (classical) or more abstract building (like tour de vere). I hope it never will get build ( on this location)

i know it may not fit in with all of NY's art deco architecture, but we have to start somewhere in terms of building modern looking structures

I understand but what I'm saying is make a special zone for it to experiment, and build revolutionary buildings. But do not build them all shattered through out Manhattan. I think that will ruin the Old magnificent metropolis feeling for me. And In the Netherlands they have a special committee that checks if a building fit in its surroundings. That works to preserve a lot of the medieval and 1800 architecture in the center of the old cities. Outside the city centers there are special business and office zones where more experimental buildings can be placed.

Yes, new york might not be the best place to build this tower.
But for new york, this would be a start of a newer generation of towers rising towards the sky, and soon more and more buildings will be built just as green and prosperous as this one.
Then 1 Madison Avenue will fit into the skyline better.

i love this tower

WOW.. I truly love the concept, but i've gotta wonder, can the building it sits on take so much more weight!?!? I feel uneasy just looking at it!

it's not just the architects. it's the structural engineers that do the work for transferring the loads and making sure the weight is distributed right

I'm pretty sure eddie88 was being sarcastic, since the question was pretty stupid.

The question was naive but not stupid. Give him a break; he's trying to learn and that's already good.

Eddie's answer was quite adequate though!

I do not like this proposal too much; The proposed tower looks nice and the older building also looks nice but it just looks weird together. I think they should just build the proposed part of the tower in another location like in Downtown Brooklyn or maybe even Jersey City or something. This proposal obviously demonstrated the scarcity of available space on Manhattan Island.

I think this tower would suit in Lower Manhattan, when the Freedom tower and the other World Trade Center towers are built. The design looks good but doesn't belong in Middle Manhattan.
