Thats a slick design. It will be a port for yachts and cruiseships right? Because the passenger terminal for the ferries will be moved to Tanger-med right?

They dont have the room for that, the medina is located near the marina.

On this occasion, CEO of the company to redevelop the Tangier City harbour area Abdelouafi Laftit presented before the Sovereign the broad outlines of this development project whose construction will be in a phased manner beginning in March 2011.

Stretching over an area of approximately 84 hectares, the project aims to redevelop the area into a marina and cruise and strengthen the tourism and cultural position of Tangier at the international level, in strict respect for the environment.

In accordance with the High instructions of HM the King, this project will ensure an optimum redevelopment of the area through the creation of a living place while respecting Tangier’s rich history, integrating the port in the city and promoting an environment-friendly development.

The project, whose completion is expected in late 2016, seeks to build a large-scale hosting platform and reinforce the position of Tangier as an influential tourism destination in the Mediterranean.

The future harbour area will provide significant infrastructure in order to receive the largest cruise ships in the world, with the construction of three berths for this activity, the largest will be a 360-m length. The targeted traffic is 300,000 tourists by 2016 and 750,000 by 2020.

By 2016, it will have one of the best services offer in the region through the creation of a mega Marina. These new recreational facilities will benefit from the significant capacity gap in terms of hosting in the Mediterranean.

The building of a new port aims to improve the working conditions of professionals and contribute to promoting the fishing industry in the region.

The project provides for the building of a 15,000 square-meter museum and a 1,500-seats conference centre, as part of promoting cultural activity.

Following the presentation ceremony, HM the King visited the Tangier City harbour area.

CHIC et choc, tel sera l’habit tissé pour le port de Tanger-ville et pour l’ensemble de la baie de Tanger. Le projet de reconversion, exposé la semaine dernière en présence du Roi, étonne tant par son classicisme que par quelques touches novatrices.
Le projet a d’abord maintenu la piste de la croisière. Ce sont quelque 300.000 croisiéristes qui sont attendus à l’horizon 2016, un chiffre qui pourra atteindre les 750.000 en 2020. Pour ce, le port sera doté de trois postes pour les paquebots de croisière, de 260, 270 et 360 mètres. Ce dernier poste pourra accueillir les plus grands paquebots de croisière, même ceux de la dernière génération, selon la société en charge de la reconversion du port.
D’autre part, le port entend profiter du secteur porteur de la plaisance. A l’horizon 2016, ce sont 1.610 anneaux qui seront créés.
Un nouveau bassin, dédié exclusivement à la plaisance, fournira 1.080 amarres. Il sera renforcé par la rénovation du bassin actuel de pêche qui offrira 530 amarres supplémentaires. Il est à noter que ce secteur est actuellement sur un trend haussier malgré un manque flagrant d’équipements dédiés dans les ports méditerranéens, une donne sur laquelle les promoteurs du projet entendent capitaliser. A terme, ce sont plus de 3.000 anneaux qui devront être créés le long de la baie de Tanger, à oued Lihoud, Merkala, Ghandouri et Mrissat. De quoi transformer Tanger en une méga-marina au niveau de toute la région.

L’activité de pêche sera, quant à elle, transférée au sein d’une darse dédiée adossée à l’actuel port. Cette darse offrira 1.900 mètres linéaires de quais, 13 hectares de bassins et autant de terre-pleins, de quoi tripler la capacité actuelle. L’objectif est d’améliorer, par la même occasion, les conditions de travail des pêcheurs et de profiter de l’attractivité de cette activité.

Le port entend aussi améliorer l’activité de transport des voyageurs. C’est le cas de la liaison fast-ferry avec le port espagnol de Tarifa. Cette ville est, d’ailleurs, le point de départ de plusieurs excursions de jour vers le port de Tanger. Leur nombre est d’environ 300.000 personnes par an à faire le trajet pour des excursions à Tanger et son arrière-pays. La gare maritime sera remise à niveau et modernisée avec trois postes à quai dédiés pour les fast-ferrys.
En matière d’équipements terrestres, le projet ne démérite pas. A moyen terme, il prévoit la mise en place d’une importante capacité hôtelière avec plusieurs hôtels, dont deux 5 étoiles en plus de plusieurs résidences touristiques pour un total de 1.600 lits répartis sur le périmètre du port. Ces équipements seront complétés par un palais des congrès d’une capacité de 1.500 places, fruit de la reconversion des anciennes halles à céréales, un musée sur une superficie de 15.000 m2 et un complexe de salles de cinéma sur 7.000 mètres carrés.

Le projet réserve également une superficie de 30 hectares aux espaces publics. Parmi ces derniers, plusieurs places publiques seront destinées à accueillir des activités à caractère culturel, associatif ou festif. C’est le cas de la place Bab Al Marsa qui est aménagée sur une superficie de 8 hectares, la place du Large, sur 5 hectares, ou encore la place de la Presqu’île sur 2 hectares.

En outre, le projet prévoit l’aménagement et la construction de zones de commerce et d’animation sur une superficie plancher de 42.000 m2, dont un grand centre commercial de renommée internationale sur une superficie de 15.000 m2. En prévision aussi, l’aménagement et la construction d’espaces résidentiels et de plateaux de bureaux sur environ 130.000 mètres carrés.

Les concepteurs du projet envisagent également la mise en place d’un système de téléphérique qui assurera une connexion directe entre le centre de la ville (place Faro), la marina, le nouveau port de pêche et la kasbah. Cette structure sera la première du genre à être installée au Maroc, de quoi ravir les visiteurs de la ville de Tanger.

Tour de table


LE capital de la société de réaménagement du port de Tanger est de 600 millions de DH. Il est réparti entre l’Etat avec 225 millions de DH, le Fonds Hassan II pour le même montant.
50 millions de DH seront injectés au titre de la participation de l’Agence nationale des ports (ANP) et 25 millions de DH de l’Agence du Nord. Pour compléter le tour de table, le Conseil de la ville de Tanger devra participer à hauteur de 75 millions de DH sur la base d’une bourse de la part de l’autorité de tutelle.

Fishing activity will, in turn, transferred into a dedicated dock backed by the current port. This dock will provide 1,900 linear feet of docks, 13 acres of ponds and many embankments, enough to triple current capacity. The objective is to improve, at the same time, the working conditions of fishermen and enjoy the attractiveness of this activity.

The port also plans to improve the business of transporting passengers. This is the case of the fast-ferry link with the Spanish port of Tarifa. This city is, indeed, the starting point for many day trips to the port of Tangier. Their number is about 300,000 people a year make the trip for trips to Tangier and its hinterland. The ferry terminal will be upgraded and modernized with three dedicated berths for fast ferries.

In terms of ground equipment, the project does not demerit. In the medium term, it provides for the establishment of a large hotel capacity with several hotels, including two 5-star addition to several tourist residences for a total of 1,600 beds on the perimeter of the port. These facilities will be complemented by a convention center with a capacity of 1,500 seats, the result of the conversion of former grain halls, a museum on an area of 15,000 m2 and a cinema complex on 7,000 square meters.

The project also provided an area of 30 hectares to public spaces. Among these, several public squares will be used to host cultural activities, associations or festive. This is true of the Bab Al Marsa, which is built on an area of 8 hectares, the place of Broad, on 5 acres, or instead of the peninsula on 2 acres.

In addition, the project involves the construction and building trade zones and animation on a floor area of 42,000 m2, including a large commercial center of international renown over an area of 15,000 m2. Also in anticipation, planning and construction of residential areas and office floors of about 130,000 square meters.

The project designers are also considering setting up a cable car system that will provide a direct connection between the center of the city (instead Faro), the marina, the new fishing port and the Kasbah. Round


THE capital of the company to redevelop the port of Tangier is 600 million DH. It is divided between the state with 225 million dirhams, the Hassan II Fund for the same amount.
DH 50 million will be injected under the participation of the Agence Nationale des Ports (ANP) and 25 million DH for the Northern Agency. To complete the round, the Council of the city of Tangier will contribute up to 75 million dirhams on the basis of a grant from the regulator.
