Divisional Railway Manager of Hubli Division of South Western Railway, Praveen Kumar Mishra, has said the new railway station here will be functional in the next few months.

Speaking at the 57th Railway Week celebrations of the Hubli Division recently, Mr. Mishra said the new station would have a new platform, subway, booking office, food plaza, air-conditioned waiting room, waiting rooms for men and women, tourist facilitation centre, cloak room, ATMs, lifts and escalators, and a mall.

As part of upgrading of the railway station, two pitlines were extended to accommodate trains with 24 coaches. This would enable new trains to be introduced from Hubli, and in increasing the coaches in the present trains.

4.1 p.c. growth

Mr. Mishra said the division carried 4.02 crore passengers during 2011-12, registering growth of 4.1 per cent. This resulted in passenger earnings of Rs. 206.89 crore, an increase of 6.8 per cent over the corresponding period in the previous financial year.

He said 2,169 special trains were run and 534 additional coaches attached, giving additional earning of Rs. 1.07 lakh.

The division was focussing on cleanliness and had introduced mechanised cleaning, apart from employing motivated personnel. Onboard housekeeping service (OBHS) was introduced on three pairs of trains to improve hygiene and two more trains would be brought under the service soon, he said.

“Despite constraints, recession in the domestic and international market and the ban on iron ore exports, the performance of the Hubli division for 2011-12 has been satisfying and also quite encouraging with substantial improvement in domestic freight loading,” he said.

Honoured

On the occasion, 343 personnel, including four officers, were honoured with individual awards. As many as 14 group awards were also given out. Additional Divisional Railway Manager G.K. Dwivedy, president of SWR Women's Welfare Organisation's Hubli division Sunita Mishra, and Senior Divisional Personnel Officer G.S.R. Rao were present.

ನಾನು ಎರಡನೇ ಬಾರಿ ಹುಡಾ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೇರಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಹಿಂದೆ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮ್ಮಿಶ್ರ ಸರಕಾರದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇವಲ 6 ತಿಂಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷನಾಗಿದ್ದೆ. ನಾನು ಎಷ್ಟು ದಿನ ಅಧಿಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತೇನೋ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ, ಇದ್ದಷ್ಟು ದಿನ ಪಕ್ಷದ ಹಿರಿಯರ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವಳಿ ನಗರದ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಪಟ್ಟರು.

ನಿಕಟಪೂರ್ವ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ದತ್ತಾ ಡೊರ್ಲೆ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, ನಾನು ಮೂರು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷನಾಗಿದ್ದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಉತ್ತಮ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಅಮರಗೋಳದ ಬಡಾವಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಸರ್ವೋಚ್ಚ ನ್ಯಾಯಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋರಾಡಿ ಜಯಿಸಿದ ಶ್ರೇಯಸ್ಸು ನನಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಗೆ ಸಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಲಿಂಗರಾಜ ಪಾಟೀಲ ಮುಂದುವರೆಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗಬೇಕು. ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರದಿಂದ ವಸತಿ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲು ಕುಸುಗಲ್, ಗಬ್ಬೂರ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತಲಿನ ಗ್ರಾಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 1200 ಎಕರೆ ಭೂಮಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಸ್ವಾಧೀನಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ ನಡೆದಿದೆ ಎಂದರು.

ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದ ಮಹಾಪೌರ ಡಾ.ಪಾಂಡುರಂಗ ಪಾಟೀಲ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, ಅವಳಿ ನಗರಗಳಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕಾನೂನುಬಾಹಿರವಾಗಿ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾದ ಬಡಾವಣೆಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಗಮನ ಹರಿಸುವುದು ಅವಶ್ಯಕ. ಮಹಾನಗರ ಪಾಲಿಕೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ವಹಿಸದಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಕಾನೂನುಬಾಹಿರ ಬಡಾವಣೆಗಳು ತಲೆಎತ್ತುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಇವುಗಳನ್ನು ದ್ವೇಷಿಸದೇ, ಇವುಗಳು ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತಿರುವ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಗಂಭೀರ ಚಿಂತನೆ ಅಗತ್ಯ ಎಂದು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು.

ಮಹಾನಗರದ ಜನತೆಗೆ ಉತ್ತಮ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯಗಳು ದೊರೆಯುವಂತಾಗಬೇಕು. ಪಾಲಿಕೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರ ಸೇರಿ ಈ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಯೋನ್ಮುಖವಾಗಬೇಕು ಎಂದರು.

NEW DELHI, APRIL 20:
South-East Asia-focussed private equity firm New Silk Route (NSR) has invested about Rs 206 crore ($40 million) in VRL Logistics last month.

While the fresh funds are likely to be used in expanding the Hubli-based transport firm's vehicle strength and repay debts, it will also lead to a delay in its plans to hit the capital markets with an initial public offering. VRL had filed a DRHP in December last year.

This is the second recent investment by the $1.4-billion fund, which looks at growth capital. Recently, it also picked up a majority 51 per cent stake in Bangalore-based South Indian food chain, Adiga. NSR will now take control of the business, though Adiga's promoter family will actively help in running it.

“We have already committed about $800 million from the fund, and will likely to raise another fresh fund by the next year of about the same size. Our investments are now in about 16 firms, of which only 2-3 are outside India,” Mr Darius Pandole, Partner, NSR Advisors, said.

The PE fund is primarily focussing on the consumer sectors, apart from infrastructure, where the investment size is typically about $40 million. Reports have indicated that NSR has set aside about Rs 500 crore to invest in food and beverage funds, where the PE fund can take a controlling stake. NSR already has investments in Café Coffee Day, apart from firms such as 9X Media, Aster Pvt. Ltd and Reliance Infratel.

“We generally look at firms where we can take a controlling stake and be involved in the operations,” Mr Pandole added.

Despite having an official car, Hubli-Dharwad Mayor Pandurang Patil seems more comfortable travelling on his motorcycle.

Known for his simplicity, Dr. Patil, who was elected Mayor last month, chooses to use his motorcycle to attend to calls from residents of the twin cities.

On Thursday too, the Mayor visited localities in Vidyanagar, with councillor Raghavendra Ramadurg riding pillion, to hear grievances of residents. He visited Shirur Park, parts of Unakal and Heggeri, represented by Mr. Ramadurg.

They heard complaints about bad roads, non-disposal of waste and official apathy. The Mayor rang up some zonal officials asking them to address the problems.

Even as a councillor, Dr. Patil said, he toured the areas on a motorcycle and so there was nothing new to it. When complaints were made he thought he should attend to them immediately rather than wait for the official car, the Mayor said.
