South Beach Miami today

I went to South Beach for lunch and walked around a bit. I was only there for 4 hours or so.

By the way that one shot is of a giant shell dreidel that spins. Thanks. I think Miami has a very strong identity for a US city. There is a midcentury style that continues to refresh itself. Other cities seem to struggle with their identity in this country but not Miami. Bright colors, cartoonish shapes and daring juxtapositions make Miami very unique. No other Florida city is as comfortable with its identity as Miami. They have done a brilliant job marketing themselves. Fort Lauderdale for instance, knocks many old buildings down to make faux Spanish revival or Miami rip-offs.

This is exactly what comes to my mind when I think of Miami:

I was in Miami from 1AM - 7AM today and had a really fun time. Miami is a great place to have fun and shop, but I would never live there. Your pictures are really great and hope to see more soon. I like the pictures of the people the best.

Terrific photo spread! I love how you captured the quirkiness and vibrancy of the scene down here. The people eating fresh coconut is classic Miami!

What a live-and-let-live atmosphere. No one blinked at this coming down the street.... maybe except you and your camera. Thanks!

I agree, quintessential Miami!

Although we still have our share of retirees, the median age in Miami, and especially South Beach, has dropped drastically in the past twenty years to 36 years.

Its a great mix of people, old and young, all out and about... and its December!

Glad you think so. Miami Beach is a new city with a long history if that makes any sense.

Weather-wise it just doesn't get any nicer anywhere in the world than Miami in December.
