I suppose you would call this a dense city too?

Actually this dencity-discussion is kinda stupid - I mean, look at the pictures in this thread. Copenhagen is one big dence area, whereas most nordic cities have an innercity-district surrounded by more or less urban areas. The Copenhagen innercity-district is mostly public or official buildings, and even I, who live here, don't really know when I'm in or out of the "inner city".

I suppose this should go in the "N&B Geography thread", but I calculated the density for the inner city of Malmö as well.

NOTE: The data (Områdesfakta för Malmö 2007) is from 2006/2007.

Malmö is the most dense city (urban area) in Sweden, and it's inner city is located mainly in three districts:
Centrum (inner city pop. 40.326), Västra Innerstaden (inner city pop. 25.822) and Södra Innerstaden (inner city pop. 28.866).

The following boroughs have a few inner city districts each (note: the population indicated is the population of the inner city districts alone, not the population of the whole borough):
Kirseberg (inner city pop. 6268), Hyllie (inner city pop. 6208), Fosie (inner city pop. 4906) and Rosengård (inner city pop. 1688).

The combined population of all the inner city districts of Malmö is 114.084 inhabitants, and the districts cover a total area of 1087 hectares (10,87 km2).
This results in an inner city population density of 10495 inhabitants/km2.

NOTE: The areas of Bo01 (including the Turning Torso), Flagghusen and Dockan are (despite being of "inner city character") not included since there is no specific data for these areas (only for Västra Hamnen as a whole, which is kind of a wasteland and not at all "inner city" yet).

Hehe, you're funny. In Rosengård for example, the immigrants (around 80% of the Rosengård population) often live up to 10 people (sometimes more) in a three room apartment.

This population definition is so silly. You should shove it up where the sun never shines.

It is funny the way you didn't tell this to the persons who started it (again) but to an individual who entered the discussion long after you did so yourself. Just like it is funny that you find his contributions unserious because thei include numbers, calculations and links/references - while your own argumentation is limited to a "I've been to both cities" statement and a few authoritative outbursts. You really don't like people who knows better than you do - or facts that don't fit your agendam - do you?

Well, maybe not, but that's nothing I need to worry about here.

Why are you always so biased i favour of Copenhagen?

Who says that population density is the only measure of density? Floor area ratio and gross denisty are other common ways to measure urban density..

My point is that Stockholm inner city probably has a greater floor area ratio than Copenhagen

I've personally never experienced any "OMG bustling metropolis pulse" when visiting Copenhagen. The inner city has pretty low buildings, kind of like Göteborg's inner city but larger.

Stockholm has, in opposite to Copenhagen, a small core and endless suburbs with few oppurtunities for commercial services. That makes alot more people visiting the core and making it more lively than in Cph, where even in peripheral parts there are retail, cafés etc.

I can agree to some of it, but calling Copenhagen's inner city less lively than Stockholm indicates ignorence from your part..

Stockholm do seem more centralized than Copenhagen - but I think most of the confusion here comes from visitors who never left Copenhagen's old town and never saw the actual city that lies around it..

www.maps.live.com and www.maps.google.dk will come highly recommended from me to anyone in doubt...

Alternatively I made some "virtual drive" videos this summer of various districts in Copenhagen that may be of interest:

Nørrebro and Frederiksberg

Vesterbro - Inner City - Nørrebro

Søndrebro - Østerbro - Nørrebro

Inner City - Østerbro - Nørrebro - Søndrebro

Old Town - Downtown - Vesterbro

No Nordic city have a "bustling metropolis feeling" our urban structure is way too laid back for that and I personally don't think that's a bad thing, far from it really...

Having been a member of these forums since the very first day (before the Skyscrapercity.com days back in 2000 or 2001?), please do trust me when saying, we've been through this many times already and do also trust me when saying, we're yet to agree.

It's the same old over again, Copenhagen vs Stockholm and Oslo vs Helsinki. Why, though? I used to argue for days, but let me tell you. It's a waste of time.

Lets just stop this utter nonsense and enjoy the actual aerials.

With that said, the aerials from Stavanger and Bergen are amazing.

kinda pointless comparison mates. i mean yeah its the official way. But when i mean density, i mean functional density. Offices count for me aswell, the people who actually work in the part of the city we examine means ALOT, its the possible amount of people. Or rather, what im saying is the amount of SQUAREMETERS of built space per squarekm.
