Pretty Padukone dancing with Marvellous Maravanthe

GOD'S NEW COUNTRY

The villages Padukone and Maravanthe are located in Kundapura Taluk of Udupi district. The river Sowparnika flows parallel to Arabian sea in curly paths with Maravanthe on one side and Padukone on the other side before joining the sea. Driving on NH-17 sandwiched between the river and the sea gives an unique experience with the nature here.

A few of legends associated with Padukone village are Badminton Champion Prakash Padukone, legendary actor Guru Dutt (whose birth name was Vasanth Kumar Shivsankar Padukone) and Gurudutt's mother and well known kannada writress Vasanthi Padukone.

The name Padukone (ಪಡುಕೋಣೆ, पडुकॊणे) means 'West Corner' (padu = west, kone = corner or room).

Work on to develop rest of Bhujanga Park in Udupi

Quote:
Work on this undeveloped section has already started and it is expected to be completed by March 2010. If everything goes according to the plan, you will be greeted by a stone pergola with creepers at the entrance. There will be an 800-m long walking track, a small rock garden with a waterfall, a lily pond and fountains in the park. The garden will have 2,500 plants and some palms.

krishnaM, thanks for the pictures. Udipi region and the coastal areas around are the most beautiful spots of India. There is a unique feeling of villages/regional life here. The vegetation is lush green and the small rivers and water bodies makes it that special. Malpe beach is a great area. I visited a lot of the interior areas around Udipi, villages like Pangala, Pudubadri, Kattil, etc. Everywhere you go you see a temple in the villages and lush green paddy fields, coconut groves, the air is clean and village life appears peaceful. Great memories!

KMC to introduce medical simulation in country

Quote:
MANIPAL: On Monday, Manipal University will become India’s first university to have a Medical Simulation Centre.

Simulation. A feature commonly associated with training in aviation industry, will be making a mark in the medical field as well.

MU Vice-Chancellor Dr Raj P Warrier addressing mediapersons here on Saturday said that MU had introduced medical simulation training with an aim to tap educational advantages as an adjunct to traditional teaching with patients.

“With simulation, there is no risk to patients, realistic clinical scenarios can be reproduced reliably for different trainees, and serious types of medical crises can be duplicated allowing participants to hone their teamwork, leadership, and communication skills,’’ Dr Warrier said.

While in countries like USA, medical simulation plays a key role in medical practitioner credentialing and patient safety initiatives, in India it is still in its infancy. MU Registrar Dr H Vinod Bhat highlighted that to run a medical simulation centre is “a fairly expensive affair”. The university had acquired several units for the lab, the main one being the manikin, an anatomical model of the human body, used in teaching art or medicine, called SimMan.

Dr Warrier said the target audience will include students and qualified professionals in medical, dental, nursing and allied health professions. The state-of-theart centre will be inaugurated on Monday by State Minister for Medical Education Ramachandra Gowda and Director of Medical Education, Dr A R Aruna.

Namma Udupi..... :)

Udupi is getting modernized day by day - The Economy, Industry and Future Developments - 6/18/2009

Photographs by Alex Lewis
Economy and industry

Udupi is becoming a major city of Karnataka. People here have the highest average per-capita income in Karnataka according to a recent survey by a private firm.. Poverty rate in Udupi is fairly low when compared to Bangalore and other districts of Karnataka. People in Udupi lead a high standard of life.

Udupi is also the birth place of the Syndicate Bank and Corporation Bank. Udupi's economy depends mainly on agriculture and fishing. Small-scale industries like the cashew industry, and other food industries and milk cooperatives are the most prominent. There is no large-scale industry in Udupi. The Karnataka Government had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Cogentrix Light and Power Industry to set up a thermal power plant in the district at Nandikur. However, because of stiff opposition from citizens and environmentalist groups, the project has been temporarily suspended. An attempt by the Nagarjuna Power Corporation to set up a similar plant at nearby Padubidri also met strong opposition.

Udupi is also home to a well-known software company Robosoft Technologies, which is into product development for the Mac OS and Windows platforms. It is located at New Udupi(Santhekatte, Kallianpur). The company has brought Udupi a significant place in the global IT scenario.

Future Developments

Udupi is getting modernized day by day retaining its image as a pilgrimage centre. Lot of developments are taking place in the city and many projects are in pipeline.

Adi Udupi-Kadiyali Road passing through Kalsanka (State Highway 25 Malpe-Molakalmuru) which is an arterial road of the city is being widened into a 80 feet four lane double road. This project has been a long pending demand of the Udupi citizens. The widening is currently under progress. The stretch between City Bus Station and Kadiyali is opened for traffic after widening. The project is likely to be extended up to Manipal. The widening of this road has resulted in increase of land prices in the surroundings.

The widening of NH 17 from Surathkal to Kundapur to a four lane highway will result in widening of the stretch which passes through the city. Two flyovers at Kinnimulky and Karavali Junction will be coming up and are expected to ease the traffic jams to some extent at those junctions.

Due to large inflow of foreign and NRI students to Manipal, Udupi is expected to get an airport for landing ATR type aircrafts. Capt. Gopinath, Chairman of Deccan Aviation has stressed on the need for an airport here.

A monorail project has been proposed for Udupi along with Mysore and Mangalore by Chief Minister of Karnataka Mr. B S Yadyurappa in addition to Bangalore. This is due to increasing traffic within the city day by day. The feasibility study is yet to be conducted.

Private real estate builders and developers have proposed building shopping malls and multiplexes in future due to high average per capita income of the people here. The boom has already started with the hypermarket "Big Bazaar" which has already opened its outlet in Udupi.

The broadening of road from Ambagilu Junction - From NH 17 towards Kalsanka /Udupi is going on.

It’s a two way road with the dividers in between the road. A wide footpath for the benefit of pedestrians on either side of the road is getting ready.

A Pictorial report of this new road is given below:
