Some Citaro models run on hydrogen and I have seen these in London. These buses have a large exhaust funnel which belches out water vapour when the bus is moving

Zuidtangent buses - the Netherlands

These buses run from Amsterdam to Haarlem through Hoofddorp. They run on a special busline.

It has about 5 tv's inside wich show the arrival time for the next stop and also show video images taken inside the bus.
It also has some kind of machines for your card so that you don't have to go to the driver but you can do it yourself.

HongKong is so awesome. Its sole raison d'être must be to remind everyone else how much we suck

Australian Mercs are generally a bit different - we use low-entry buses rather than fully low floor buses and virtually all our bus bodies are local designs - you won't find any Citaros here either as they are overwidth for Australian roads.

Here are a variety of O405NH and O500LE/O500U models.

I noticed some of the Australian buses having a vertical tail pipe. Is it mandatory ? Has it any advantage ? I´ll aprecciate answers from Australia and elsewhere. Buses in my home city have had such a device until 1978 when it was banned. (With apologies for my poor use of the English language).

The rules vary from state to state.

Provincial cities throughout Australia also operated with Mercedes fleets.
These 4 are from Wollongong. A major private operator thoughout the city was Rutty's Bus Company. They used many ex-Sydney and Canberra buses as their fleet.

In the late 90s, Rutty's, along with another major bus operator in Wollongong were taken over by Premier Illawarra and their fleets converted. This is possibly the only remaining Mercedes of the fleet. Almost all of the fleet has been replaced with new Volvo and MAN low access buses.

Premier Illawarra still use a few Merc O405s that were former of Quinces in Melbourne, and Dions also has a few. They are quite similar to the MkVs in Sydney.

I've taken pics of them a few times when I have been in Wollongong earlier this year - have to dig them up. I also think you're over-estimating the proportion of the fleet that has been replaced - it's only a year or two ago that they were still buying second hand ones.

What, you don't like being corrected?

It's OK nmuzz, I generally only read OzScrapers and the Subways & Urban Transport/Railways forums, in addition to popping into the Thai and Toronto forums. Anywhere else you can evade me
