I was just thinking the same about European city buses. Everything looks like a boring box on wheels with melted edges and overdone front styling. Give me a good old Volgren any day, with nice, simple, clean lines.

A bus doesn't need more than 4 wheels and a nice and minimalist designed box. If you like buses with nice, simple and clean lines then you must love european buses actually.

Buses designed by Volgren look rather European nowadays.

Nmuzz, these pictures come from a website called: The Retired ACT Transport Employees Club, their web address is here: http://trevorl.mvps.org/ratec/album.html

Are you a member? Did you take the photos? If not did you have their permission to post the pictures as if they are your own? If not if you post a link to someone elses pictures you should really acknowledge where they came from.

Speaking of your favorite city nmuzz, I remember there is/was some of those ex-ACTION Mercs doing a shuttle from North Wollongong Station to the University. I remember seeing it last year - might have gone some time this year.

Belconnen Interchange looks a little less grungy in that photo - now it's run-down hole.

you should see the old minibuses that used to run in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Some can still be found on the streets of smaller cities throughout the country including my own town.

Share the pictures by all rights, but give the people who own the photo credit by saying where you got it from. Is that too hard or too much to ask for? Would you be impressed if someone posted one of your pics (with everyone thinking it was your own)? No didn't think so.

BTW I used to work for ACTION buses (and drove some of the 0305's in their last days at ACTION but mostly drove PR100.2's) and I know the people who run that website. I know for a fact they don't care if the picture gets shown, which is why it is on the web, provided of course that credit is given where due.

It is soon to be replaced by several new larger stops, including one at the Westfield shopping centre. Seems like a pretty backwards step to me.

It was hardly arsey, just stating you should acknowledge work that is not your own.

Look mate, I was just sharing. And actually I wouldn't mind if people used my photos to share either! It did come across as finger wagging and it wasn't called for as I didn't claim the picture as my own.
People shouldn't assume...
Anyway, moving on...the photo was a cracker!

You posted without credit, that to me (and most everyone else) is posting as if it were your own, so give credit to the people who brought such a cracker of a photo to us and show people where there are dozens of more historical pictures of Canberra. There are some bloody great pics on that site.

I don't necessarily agree with that... but in a sense I guess it is true. European buses are generally better than everywhere else.

Huh? A bit contratictory isn't it? What experiences are you basing this on?

Haha yes it is a bit contradictory... Buses throughout North America (some buses are just repulsively ugly...), namely:
  1. TransLink NextGen Buses & Trolleys - Vancouver, BC, Canada
  2. Viva BRTs - York, Ontario, Canada
  3. ETS NextGen Buses - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
  4. TriMet's "New" Painting Scheme - Ontario, Oregon, USA

...are quite decent. For obvious reasons, I can't post the pictures here since none of them actually have Mercedes-Benz buses (*cries*)
