Nice pics. What happened to the works in br 040, 050 and all the others given to private sector mainly in Minas Gerais, Goiás, MT and MS?
Maybe openstreetmap.org is outdated but aren't they supposed in 5 years time full highways. And how is rj br101 until ES.
And Porto Alegre-Pelotas. And finally the br 101 in the northeast in AL and SE ?

BR-040

This road has 940 km long, about 70 km were upgraded to dual carriage-way, Via040 Toll company is on schedule to complete works within the next 3-4 years.



BR-050

This road has 600 km long, about 40 km were upgraded to dual carriage-way, another 60 km stretch wil be complete on July.






BR-163

This road has 845 km long in Mato Grosso state, about 120 km were upgraded to dual carriage-way;

In Mato Grosso do Sul state it has 850 km, about 100 km completed.



BR-101 Espirito Santo state

Finally, there are improvements, new bypasses u/c and upgrading some stretch to dual carriageway.



BR-101 in northeast Brazil is a complete mess

ps: yep, the new br101-NE it's kinda half done, half mesy.
I don't know due to the current problems of budget over there but linking by br101 until Feira de Santana then by the br116 to Governador Valadares(until someday they finish it) should be one of the priorities (like in the USA or Europe). Better have interstates like the us to link the main cities in such a huge country. If the government can't do it some kind of PPP or privatization for 20 years or more of those roads connecting in a near future Fortaleza(via Natal) with the Argentinian border.
I don't know but Argentina is now investing big in roads and railways, that can always be a stimulus for the economy more jobs, more money, decent links between cities with +3M/1M and some 0.5M/+0.3 people, the USA did it in the past, the results were quite good.

I was about to ask the same question. From what I read works on the BR-040 halted after they widened about 70km stretch in Goias, still waiting for environmental licensing. BR-153 heading North to Tocantins hasn't even started. I'm curious how the BR 163 works in Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul are doing especially since in the former state the works are being done by Odebrecht. In addition I wonder how the BR 060/153/262 in Goias and Minas Gerais are doing. As far as I know the BR 050 is under way and should be finished in a two years.

BR 101 in ES are finally underway while it looks like the government halted the Porto Alegre-Pelotas project. The BR 101 project in the North East was a sh!t show from the beginning.

I for the life of me don't know why the Government just privatizes the bulk of highways to create a real national interstate system.

Brazil has plenty of regions that are very sparsely populated(Even in the South and in the Southeast). That makes highway privatization much less attractive. Brazilians are much less likely to own a car or to do long commutes by car than Americans, so, that means less traffic to pay for the tolls than in regions in the United States with similar population density(And I don´t know if you could build highways in Nevada or in Idaho using highway privatization).

There is the additional problem that mountains in the Southeast and in the South(Where most of the population is) makes highway construction more expensive.
