Brasilian roads are looking good!
Signs are interestingm and they looks like combination of european and north american signs, but I need to ask one question - Brasil doesen't have something like standard for dimensions of signs, font and colours of signs... Am I right?

All photos are quotes from the Brazilian forum. Most of the pics are official (public domain) ones.
You can see various poor neighboors around where they are building the RodoAnel, thats because in Sao Paulo the poors mostly live at the city margins.

Theres a huge sign list you have to know to get the license, from that signs you have figures and colors imutable, but i think signs indicating city directions and distance dont have a standard.

Pedestrians might cross the highway (hence the 60 km/h speed). Weird, I know.

What is weird? The sign or the pedestrians crossing?

Pedestrians crossings in a 2+2 w/ shoulders grade-separated highway whose VMax is otherwise 110 kph.

By the way, this is the highway connecting Belo Horizonte to Confins International Airport (CNF).

A forumer (Ferraz/RBR) on the Brazilian section wrote a wonderful post about one of the most challenging road projects in Brazil: paving of BR-364 on Brazilian westernmost state of Acre.

That road as opened as a dirt county road in the 70's to provide access to this then neglected region. It is part of the major Brasília-Acre project, which connected the new (established 1960) capital of Brasilia with what was, by then, Brazilian less populated, underdeveloped and uncivilized areas of the country.

Up to Porto Velho paving was complete in 1983. To Rio Branco, in 1989. In the early 1990's the paving was completed on both extremes of this concerned sector, and it stopped there for a while. Environwackos, astroturfed NGOs and other backward-thinking agitators tried to starve and deprive the state of Acre from the much needed major axis, which, unpaved and not totally engineered, is passable only half year, during the dry season.

In 2003 the project got steam again and is progressing fast. I'll translate some but not all of the original post text. To enhance visualization, I'll do it coloring in grey without ending and resuming the quotes

Great post, highly interesting stuff. Although Acre seems a small state, it is still 4 times larger than the Netherlands.

What a shame road geometry isn't a major concern even in these new highways.
