Not BR-140, it is BR-040

Which city is that? Close to Belo Horizonte?

First section was built from 1978-1985 (São Paulo-Jacareí), second section in the the late 1990's (northbound lanes, which were then reversed and operated southbound on peak times around holidays and weekends) and 2001-2003 (southbound lanes).

I was wondering if anyone could provide me any 2010 maps of Brazil's highway system. The most recent provided by the DNITT seem rather outdated.

I also have various questions

What's the progress in the duplication of the BR 101 North East, South East and South? Do you think within 6 years one could go from Rio Grande do Sul to Natal all in interstate style highways?

Any new projects or plans for duplicating BR 116? Or BR 040?

Finally are things moving along in paving the BR 319, BR 156 and BR 163?

Any other big highway projects that are occurring?

Sorry for overwhelming you guys with questions, no need to answer them all.

Twinning or first section on Northeast area (Natal-Palmares) is u/c. Sectors are being put into service as they are finished. Completion expected for early 2012 (maybe late 2011).

BR-101 from Palmares to Alagoinhas is on pubic tender. Contracts expected to be awarded around March-2011 and works expected to last until 2013.

On Southeast areas, there are plans to twin most of the road within Espirito Santo state, but those are on early planning stages. Twinning from Campos dos Goytacazes to Rio Bonito is under a contract restructuring with the private concessionaire managing the sector, expected to be completed in 2014. Works hasn't started yet, project is under environmental assessment.

Now, Southern sectors: a major feature of the twinning/modernization project has been completed (a bypass + tunnel that shortened the overall highway length by 11km). Works, expected for one major bridge in Tubarão, are expected to be completed late 2011.

Not at all. All this 2x2 sectors will still feature at-cross U-turns and junctions. Some cities will still feature urban expressway-like crossings.

BR-116 is under private concession from Feira de Santana to Bahia-Minas Gerais state border. Twinning is about to start on Feira de Santana-BR-242 sector. South of it, twinning will be required when traffic reaches certain thresholds at each sector.

BR-163 has major paving works ongoing. Lots of work sites established. BR-319 is still pending environmental adjustments to fill the thirst of anti-progress-anti-everything environwackos.
