This tunnel shortened the highway in 11km. You can easily notice the straight tunnel + approaches alignment and compare it to the existing BR-101 one here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...57242&t=h&z=13

What's the deal with the BR 163, I heard the paving to Santarem will be done by the end of this year. I also heard their going to widen much of the road within MT have those works started yet?

Another question what's the state of the BR 101 in the North East, currently works on going on in Rio Grande do Norte, Paraiba, Pernumbuco, Alagoas and Sergipe, what's the progress report on these works? Date of conclusion? Same question goes for the BR 101 South.

Paving up to Santarém = works on full throttle. Widening: as for now, works going only in 2 mountainous sectors.

Northeast sectors: works on course of being finished until 2012-1Q, except for Recife bypass.

Southeast sectors: major tunnel opened last month, works on course of being completed this year, save for a long bridge in Laguna.

Maybe in the developing world, and improvements are being made. We have a couple of decades to catch up with the US and Europe, at least.

Great shots guys! Some really cool stuff, but in the pic above I can not say that they spared no expense with that "on ramp" there .
