As you can see there is a loop right above and no marking, but it is a acceleration lane, and cars may be simply merging into traffic. They also may be stopped there for some reason, but it seems like an unsafe place. Remember, there is just a few full-grade-separated highway in Brasil.

São Paulo has a very good highway system, with better roads than many developed countries, but it doesn't apply for every state in Brazil, not even to every road in SP.

Lame comparison. You can't cherry pick best roads in a place and compare to the average road elsewhere. You ought to compare apples with apples and not oranges.

By such standards, Sao Paulo state, with population 34 million living in an area the size of Italy, has less than 600km of fully grade-separated highways (defined as "Classe 0" on local standards). Any similar (size/population) European country has a far larger network of such highways. I'd bet even Australia has more full-standard highways than Sao Paulo state.

What the hell are they doing with this road, putting a barrier in the middle? Someone could tell us where exactly it is.

It could be the terminus of a dual carriageway section.

Location is here

As for the median, it is mean to separate opposing traffic in a dangerous curve. This is a local, minor rural road that has just been paved. To avoid what would likely be a dangerous spot, they separated the lanes.

They should adopt such solutions more often at curves on blind spots, hill tops and alike. It makes physically impossible (or almost) to cross a continuous line for illegal overtaking.

I'm not good with this road terminology, but the light are the 2+2 or 3+3 highways and the dark are the simple roads (1+1) to acquire extra lanes (actually, many of those have acquired, as the map is a bit outdated).

Wow, will SP duplicate that road passing through Itapeva till Paraná border? This is very interesting as it create a new alternative linking south and southwest. Then it will be missing just 100km between Piraí do Sul and Itararé.

Could you (or somebody else) help us with a new map? Paraná's one is pretty accurate, at least. Maybe missing the 10 km between Apucarana and Arapongas.

Well, the most critical roads in Paraná is the Maringá-Umuarama-Paraguayan border; Maringá-Cascavel-Foz do Iguaçu; Londrina-Cornélio Procópio-São Paulo border; Londrina-Ponta Grossa and Ponta Grossa-Maringá. Those need extra lanes desperately, not only for economic issues but for public health reasons.

This is a joke. The road system in Brazil is a dump. Engineering old and abandoned. That is the truth.
