Actually, there are 6,5 million vehicles in São Paulo (municipality). Cars are "only" 4,7 million (Sep 2011).

The Dutch link states 1,2 million vehicles per day - maybe if part of local traffic is counted, I don't doubt that at all.

And this one is one of the interstate accesses in the west part of Sao Paulo, I believe it might be BR-116, please some one identify it.

Yes SP-280. That section handles 290.000 vehicles per day.

That's the ammount of cars that drive on the entire SP-015, on one single point the biggest is 385.000 vpd, which makes it one of the busiest highways in South America and also in the world (busiest in the world is highway 401 in Ontario, Canada with 437.000 vpd).

I have the data from DENATRAN (collected in the very link you've posted) and the figures are 6,572,317 vehicles and 4,715,956 cars for São Paulo (municipality).

I didn't know this 2+1 semi-highway model existed in Brasil. Maybe some paulistas can say something about its performance when driving. Parameters like safety, speed usually achieved, advantages and disadvantages between this one and a normal 1+1 road.

Isn't the first photo just an overtaking lane? That's fairly common in many countries, where a 1+1 road gets an extra lane on hills in the uphill direction so that slow vehicles don't hold the traffic up too much.

I'm not talking about that stretch. Unfortunately, our friend xrtn2 upload the pics altogether so we can't easily detach them. I'm talking about the stretch with a median, one lane in one direction and two lanes in the opposite direction. That isn't that common.
