Amazing shots. This stretch is beatiful, mainly near the RS-SC border. I don't think it should be duplicated, at least by now - the traffic is not that much - but some improvements should be done. Things like more viaducts, one or two tunnels to avoid sharp curves, barriers in the median, much more climbing lanes than there are today... this wouldn't cost so much, but would improve safety, speed and reduce fuel consumption.

I know their duplicating the BR 101 stretch from Osorio to Florianopolis (at a ridiculously slow pace) is there any talk about further duplication all the way up to Curitiba? That way the entire South would be connected and barring that small chunk in the BR 116, you could travel from Sao Paulo, BH and Rio all the down to Porto Alegre in duplicated highways.

All the way up to Curitiba, the BR-101? It is already duplicated, since the 2002, if I'm not wrong.
You can see it in Street View. Actually, by concluding the BR-101 from Osorio to Floripa, it will be possibile to travel from Belo Horizonte to Porto Alegre in duplicated highways, disregarding a small non-duplicated stretch in Régis Bittencourt highway, that links Curitiba and São Paulo.

Oh wow I didn't know that, good to hear. I know they've been talking for years about duplicating that stretch between Curitiba and Sao Paulo. Any luck on getting the necessary environmental approval? How long is that stretch, I was under the impression it wasn't that long.
