Unfortunately there is no decent highway in this region.

It would amazing go to Amazon by good and modern highway.

The problem is that the government does not seem able to control illegal logging, so the forces that be blame highway construction for deforestation. It's like you blame the local road for robberies that take place near it. Or you blame Petrobras for facilitating traffic accidents.

DNIT(federal road agency/commission) asking why IBAMA(federal enviromental agency/commission) doesnt allow paving this road:

DNIT: "100,000 people there is no access for rest of the country, this is a shame"

Do total dos 145 quilômetros da rodovia, coube ao Estado construir o chamado trecho virgem, de 70,9 quilômetros, que liga Duque de Caxias a Itaguaí, atravessando Nova Iguaçu, Japeri e Seropédica. O trecho vai do entroncamento da BR-040 (Rio-Juiz de Fora), em Caxias, ao acesso ao Porto de Itaguaí, na BR-101, cortando a BR-040, a BR-465 (Rio-São Paulo), a BR-116 (Via Dutra) e a BR-101 (Rio- Santos). O empreendimento está orçado em R$ 1,6 bilhão.

- A obra irá estruturar toda a malha rodoviária da Região Metropolitana, através da conexão dos cinco grandes eixos rodoviários do país – Rio-Santos, Rio-São Paulo, Rio-Belo Horizonte-Brasília, Rio-Bahia e Rio-Vitória – com o Porto de Itaguaí - afirmou o secretário de Obras, Hudson Braga.
