236. Too many statues and decorations adorn buildings. It's impossible to get them all.

245. It's possible to go inside Karlskirche to ascend to the top dome. I thought the views should be quite nice, and came for a look. After a harrowing elevator ride and a short staircase, I came to the top of the dome, only to find out it's not possible to see out so clearly since it's an indoor platform and the windows are dirty and essentially not suitable for photo taking to the outside.

262. I forget the reason why I took a picture of the IKEA bus.

263. Trams and historic buildings are a good photo combination.

282. Donauturm's observation area gives a nice view of the UN compound, but is a bit too far from the historic centre.

283. I arrived fairly early in the morning after a wonderful night's rest at the brand new hostel. It seemed more like a hotel since it had its own bathroom and seemed more like a 4*. There weren't too many people at the tower so early in the morning.

284. A stream of mist hung over Vienna that morning, so visibility wasn't the greatest. At least the sun was out though.

288. Suburban America?

293. I wonder why the tower was built here. Perhaps it gives good range across the city?

294. The old city looms in the distance ... a bit too far to see it very clearly. It was quite disappointing.

297. The reason why I went to this part of town was to visit the UN. Since their English tours only take place at certain times of the day, I opted to visit the observation deck first, then return for the tour.

298. There are a couple of new skyscraper projects in the area.

301. Not very monumental architecture, but the Vienna campus is more subdued. It's home of the scientific arms of the UN.

308. Some of the neighbouring developments remind me of Berlin's Potsdamer Platz.

318. Another morning begins and it is time to explore the historic buildings again!

324. Statues and monuments of Vienna are everywhere.

327. With nice October weather, it's not a bad idea to sit out to enjoy a drink.

330. Imagine driving this amidst the sea of SUVs in the US.

342. Now this is a grand entrance!

349. Vienna's grand monuments are quite well-kept. There are a number of interesting buildings, and they all look sparkling good.

354. What happened here? It looks like an addition gone bad.

366. I think I'll need to start a Statues of Vienna thread separately.

376. As I emerged in another quadrant of the monuments zone, a garden appeared, and what looks like a historic greenhouse.

377. I didn't go inside, but I'm sure wonders awaited had I decided to do so. I doubt it would be just native flora on display.

379. I'm starting to learn how to time my walking tours depending on the sunlight. This one was taken against the sunlight, and I had to make a few adjustments to prevent the white stuff from blowing up and destroying the photo.

380. Another big building sat next door.

381. Wow .. the two colours actually complement each other well.

382. A few innocent kids lost in the city?

387. Vienna is truly a monumental city ... well-planned, and designed to impress.

Impressed, no?

I think Vienna is the most monumental city in the world, maybe with Rome.
