well everything from the where the street crossed and at what direction the streets went, to grade changes some areas getting higher and some lower i would classify it as a total redevelopment.

Milqy, time to dig up more THEN-N-NOW pics for our viewing pleasure... I actually thought about this thread yesterday after looking through my AAA Westways Magazine, which featured an old pic on the backpage... showing several PE streetcars running down Hill Street near Pershing Square from the 1930's (and to my knowledge many of the lovely old buildings are still standing there today).

If there is one area of LA that I find interesting, it would be Bunker Hill in Downtown.

Up to the mid 20th century it was predominantly residential with a few mid-rise apartments and office blocks.

After WW-II the place deteriorated. Then as part of urban renewal, the houses were torn down and replaced by skyscrapers.

After urban renewal,

Then you have Angel's Flight which takes to on top of Bunker Hill,

I actually rode it years back, several times. The only difference is once you reach the top, you are in front of some of the tallest buildings in LA.

Also the location of Angels Flight changed. Where it is now isn't its original spot. It was aprox. 2 blocks away as shown in the first picture.

That I did not know. But again, I was able to ride it several times!

This is where it used to be, a mere 2 blocks south of its present location, on 3rd and Hill.

You see why they could not put it back where it used to be, but we're all glad they brought it back.

You have the correct location in the photograph - but it used to be north of its current location, and by only half a block.

Look how dead and lifeless that corner has become. But at least the cars look like they are moving faster. This makes me sick to my stomach. It's like the second photo is full of nutrient rich vegetables while the first photo is all cheap canned Goya products and flavored drinks that leave stains around the mouth. We have gone in the wrong direction.

It is all because of cars.

Yes its because of the residential development.

It is great The Angels Flight is back in LA, but is it in operation? I heard it was stopped years back.

It is still interesting because on top of that hill are some of the tallest buildings in Los Angeles.
