Nice pic D.E.L Soul, I like the density!

What does everyone think about the Living Classrooms structures in HE? I don't want to label them an eye sore, but those wooden buildings and tower seem quite out of place in a vibrant commercial and residential district. Has there been any talk about relocating that whole project?

The stats are in the annual "Baltimore Business Journal Book of Lists 2009". Does not seem that these are posted anywhere online. I have my hands on a printed copy, cover price $50.

More of the mall list (Compiled Jan. 2008)
Largest Shopping Centers in the Baltimore area
1. Mall in Columbia 1.4M sq.f/202 stores
2. Arundel Mills 1.3M sq.f/170 stores
3. Owings Mills Mall 1.3M sq.f/155 stores
4. Westfield Annapolis 1.2M sq.f/173 stores
5. White Marsh Mall 1.2M sq.f/142 stores
6. Marley Station
7. Security Square Mall
8. Hunt Valley Town Centre 980K sq.f/54
9. Towson Town Centre 940K sq.f/195
10. Eastpoint Mall

Largest airlines serving BWI airport (Compiled July, 2008):
1. Southwest Airlines 11M passengers/52% market share
2. AirTran Airways 2.5M/11.82%
3. Delta Airlines 1.4M/6.56%
4. United Airlines 1.4M/6.44%
5. US Airways 1.3M/6.4%

The Job Creation list was compiled May 2008, so I imagine those figures for T Rowe are not very accurate, given the current state of the financial industry.

I agree that it's out of place, but I am hesitant to say it should be moved. I think once Harbor East and Harbor Point are built out, and Fells Point continues to become denser, the Living Classroom building and others like it will be a nice change of pace. They add character. On the other hand, if they were to disappear tomorrow to be replaced by a larger structure with lots of retail, I wouldn't complain.

I noticed yesterday that the building on the northeast corner of Maryland and Biddle is fenced off with signs around it saying "The Berg Corporation - Demolition." Anyone know if there are any plans to put something there?

EDIT: I may have just answered my question with this: http://www.mde.state.md.us/assets/document/MD_Plaza.pdf. Apparently, the property is owned by University Properties (any connection to UB?). The site is undergoing what looks like an environmental cleanup, which makes sense since the Berg Corp. sign also said they did environmental work. It's not a bad looking building. It'd be great if they could rehab it.

Noticed in Wada, very nice pictures, especially in the one Northern commented on above.

The Ritz looks totally empty, does anyone live there?

That site was supposed to be a privately developed 12 to 14 story highrise geared toward U of Baltimore students. At least those were the plans 5 years ago.

Looks as though things have changed.

It is now owned by the University of Baltimore "Office of Development".

Thanks all for the pix comments.

I see more and more lights on at the Ritz at night. People are moving in.

Looks like Legg Mason will be almost as tall, if not taller, then the Marriott. The crane looks awsome from I-95 now that they raised it. The floor/ceiling height difference between office buildings and residential/hotels must be 1.5 to 1, or something like that.

Nice pics, wada. Did you take those yesterday? I was down at the harbor yesterday afternoon as well taking a stroll. The harbor was just the right amount of packed, but the CBD was still disappointingly empty. I know it was a Sunday, but it was the Sunday before Christmas...

They were all shopping in the suburbs. Now, if only we had some kind of shopping district in the CBD ...

Marley station bigger than Towson ?

The new Legg tower should be 5 ft. taller than the Marriott when complete.

Yeah, I thought Arundel Mills was the 2nd biggest mall on the East Coast after completion? (following King of Prussia in PA)

According to this article the Mall in Columbia has 1.4M sq. feet of space. Wikipedia and other sources list Arundel Mills at 1.3M. Although AM has about 30 more stores.

Although I can not believe that HV is bigger than Towson, it kinda makes sense because of HV's anchors. Wegmans, Sears, Dick's, the whatcha_ma_call_it furniture store, the vacant Wal-Mart space are all big box stores and take up lots of room. Not to mention the movie theater, which Towson does not have.

I think Malls with alot of Department Stores have deceptively large amount of square footage.
