As a building overall it is definitely very unique and I would say that it has a special place in architectural history simply because of the process it went though... besides how many buildings have earned the name, "Hotel of Doom" It most certainly isn't the worst skyscraper ever created. I would definitly love to see some interior shots to know what is actually happening with the inside but I am happy that they are finishing the cladding.

with the "tesla coil" thing on top, could it be that its construction for a spire? like that it gets the a few extra meters by making it a full pyramid with a spire, or is it maybe supposed to be an antenna?

Ι don't think it's slow. It used to be a concrete monster a year ago. It looks like a spaceship or a metallic mustard bottle now Or an xmas tree. I love this building.

Orascom probably brought in generators, and KJI can provide fuel where needed.

Wiki says 1987 was the groundbreaking, so 24 and counting.

Well actually construction was halted between 1992 and 2008; so only about 8 years.

Khoojyh: Please read up on North Korea. They believe in Juche, self reliance (stay with me as this IS on topic) so when you see a picture of anything there, it is approved or smuggled out. Pictures of the inside of this building without gov't approval, would land someone in prison. Which is a nice way of saying you won't see any unless it's finished and beautiful.

The information released by the construction company (Orascom) says the hotel is a mixed used building, used for offices (presumably government), residences, hotel, revolving restaurants. It's only a hotel in name only and as original plan, it's actually a mixed use building now.
