If you guys keep responding to EuroVison you could get in trouble for abusing the mentally challenged. Haven't you all noticed that this guy is a few sickles and hammers short of a full set. And unfortunately whatever mental institution he is housed in accidentally let this guy have access to a computer.

Leave him alone and he will go away. Like all good trolls he only hangs around because he is being fed.

It is not North Korea that seporated itself, it is the US that threatined other countrys who interact with NK, get it right! And OldBlackMarble have you ever heard of the New World Order which is thriving in Capialism which will put you into a mental hospital? Maybe your in one now scince almost every word in your post has "Mental" in it. And to get on topic, sites of North Korea are hard to trust since anybody can make a website about NKorea saying that it is run by NK when it is not. Best to trust sites with ".KP" as domain instead of ".com" or ".org" and .kp is official registered by NK, but you still it might not be best source to find info on NK, only way to get facts is to go to NK and ask someone who really knows. Any new pictures of the hotel?

If you go to GE you can see an endless line of trucks at some border crossings riding form China to NK to supply them with goods...If they didn't had that help. They would be even in much worse state.

UranusVision says "It is not North Korea that seporated itself, it is the US that threatined other countrys who interact with NK, get it right!"

Oh, I think I have it right:

PYONGYANG, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), recently inspected the newly built Nampho Glass Bottle Factory and emphasized the importance of self-reliance spirit, the official news agency KCNA reported Wednesday.

Kim, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and chairman of the DPRK National Defense Commission, was greatly satisfied that the modern glass bottle factory has bee successfully built in a short period of time and started mass production.

He praised the workers for building such a factory requiring cutting-edge technology with their own efforts by using home-made equipment and indigenous technology.

The success demonstrated the mental power of the DPRK people to build a thriving socialist nation with their own efforts, he said, adding this represented "a great victory of the WPK's policy of attaching importance to science and technology and the DPRK's self-supporting national industry."

The factory was the shining fruition of the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance, said Kim.

He called on all DPRK people to fully display the above-said spirit and "thoroughly establish Juche in all fields" at all times and solve all the issues by themselves.
He was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam and Hong Sok Hyong, members of the Political Bureau and secretaries of the Central Committee of the WPK, and other senior officials.

Editor: Wang Guanqun

All means all. Including all North Korean buildings...? Except the Ryugyong Hotel of course!

There looks like there are No stores near it to go shopping and spend money.
Starbucks, Best Buy, Toys R US....etc. etc.
Won't catch me going there anytime soon. Definitely not.

Who is going to travel there to spend $$$$$$$
I really can't think of a worse reason not to go somewhere than being unable to spend money! To the English mind that's a possitive boon

I think the building looks stunning, but I do suspect it's an empty shell really, maybe with a restaurant on top. Way up thread were links to a development website which sort of showed how the building was going to be used, but it didn't make much sense to me.

So I would say it is a hollw sham, but a stunning hollow sham none the less.

Derek

Oh no; no stores! We're all gonna die!!! Get your head out of the shopaholic mentality influenced by capitalism. How is it a bad thing you don't have those monopolist money draining store chains around? If anything I would go to NK to escape them! .

Back on topic: Considering the frequent electricity shortages in Pyongyang any1 know if the hotel will have generators for emergencies? Are they planning anything for the big lobby/entrance?

Is the building as ugly as Baltimore, because last time i checked Baltimore was rated the ugliest village on Earth. There are no stores because it is a Hotel, and it is in the middle of a residential area, i usualy dont find a huge shopping mall randomly in between houses. And you are so reliant on capitalist money, do you want to spend money or get stuff for free? And i did not know that you go buying toys at Toy R US, but i had a feeling you played with yourself...

You can't win an arguement so you resort to personal attacks?

If tourists ever stay at this hotel, they will follow the same procedure they do when staying at the other Pyongyland hotels. Ushered from one socialist monument to the next with a 'guide' watching what they do, where they go, and who they speak to. Besides, I heard the stores in Pyongyang take US dollars! Juche!

This building will never be competed above a few floors. The concrete core is so out of plumb that elevators can't be installed. They could use some of the existing shaft, but they will never be able to get all the way to the top with a passenger elevator.

Just an empty shell...

Do you have evidence of this? It sounds more like fodder for ideological bickering.

The claim that it is impossible to install elevators is completely absurd. It may be difficult. But it is definitely possible.

there is an obvious reason why no interior photos are published. and most people seem to understand. still there are some who believe in the miraculous rebirth of this monster building with functioning hotels and such. but there are no miracles, especially not in stalinism.

It will be interesting to see if anything ever does come of this building. Certainly, 15 some odd years of that concrete being exposed to the weather of northern Korean winters doesn't inspire much confidence, but can you imagine the sheer waste of resources this building will represent if they have to tear it down sometime in the future? That'd be a real shame.
