That aside, I still love this building just because of how absurdly imposing and ominous it looks. It makes a statement just as much as any other supertall in the world. What exactly that statement is is up to the observer, I suppose.

In the top of the tower. Where there are a few horizontal stripes. The outside doesn't rotate, its the floors which turn.

The table section rotates, the upper level does not.

It's a screen cap from North Korean state television. This was shown at an architecture expo in Pyongyang. Here's the complete video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJ-L4gh6W58

I can't help but notice few tall buildings on the screenshot. They seem to be taller than 100m.

I really love this building. Its massive faces are smooth and peaceful, and the steel trim gives it a really striking profile. Too bad it couldn't have been built in Seoul or Tokyo.

East Germany never had the density to require stupid highrises like these.

Still, at least guests will have a good view of their glorious nation from the revolving hotel at the top. Or at least they would, if there was anything else to see in Pyongyang, seeing as the hotel is the largest building in the country by an astronomical margin.
The point is this is an architectural forum and the thread is about the Ryugyong. Stay on topic.

North Korea isn't a nice place but they aren't invading other countries or walling off people based on the melanin content of the skin in political apartheid. Such things can be said of the US and Israel and other "non totalitarian countries." You are probably right that the two questions are not "comparable"... killing hundreds of thousands of people invading another sovereign nation is in all logical equation probably more of a crime against humanity than brutally locking up a few thousand of their own dissenters but as I say that's a debate for another forum. Stay on topic.

Most of the people posting here have never been to North Korea and probably can't even list 3 cities in the country or when the nation was created and under what circumstances. Watching a clip on youtube doesn't make you an expert. Pretending to be one makes you seem like a blowhard and if political biases can cloud the very way you look at a piece of architecture or art, you're probably in the wrong forum in the first place.

Stay on topic.

I'm going to sum up what you just said.

Stay on topic, we can't talk about how NK is using what is essentialy slave labor to build a supertall hotel in one of the poorest countries on earth. And because there are no rights for anyone at all, rather than some rights based on race, it isn't that bad. And the USA is worse. And stay on topic.

I didn't know that the NK propaganda department had a skyscrapercity account.
