There's a shot of Ryugyong Hotel on a recent BBC News report. Looks at about the same stage as post #278 (possibly library pictures?)

There was progress on the sides and near the top. Cladding nearly completed.

i love how people call the chicago spire, freedom tower, and New york times building ugly, hideous, and a disgrace, but call this building "awesome", beautiful, and retro

really what is retro about this? i guess if you take it literally it is retro since retro means going back lol, this building certainly does digress mankind's progress in architecture

seriously my shit looks better than this building, the next building in NK should be designed after a piece of crap, i can just imagine how much everyone would love that considering how much they love this piece of crap excuse for a skyscraper, this building shows the lack in effectiveness of a communist country run by an idiot whose only goal is to instill fear into the rest of the world but fails to do even that

So what? ESB was build SEVENTY years ago...

... we can go on all day on this, but there's nothing wrong or out of (discussion) line on Atmosphere's post. Realizing that the construction started 20 years ago and is still ongoing, is indeed to go

Yes, if you are a family of rats, the building has suites.

From Wikipedia

The Ryugyong's planned 3,000 rooms and seven revolving restaurants were scheduled to open in June 1989 for the World Festival of Youth and Students, but problems with building methods and materials delayed completion. Work ceased in 1992 due to electricity shortages, funding problems, the famine of 1990 and mainly because of the elevator engineering that had failed to provide service to the top floors. Japanese newspapers estimated the cost of construction was US$750 million[5]—equivalent to 2% of North Korea’s GDP. Official pictures of Pyongyang often show the building illuminated at night, but this is due to photo manipulation.[6]

There had been some question about whether North Korea had the raw materials or energy for such a massive project.[1] A government official said in 2008 that construction had previously been halted when funds ran out. [7]

Though the basic structure was complete when construction came to a halt in 1992, the building shell has sat vacant and without windows, fixtures, or fittings for 16 years[8][9], with some media sources even going so far as to dub it "The Worst Building in the World."

"there had been some question", "a government official said[anonimously]", "some media sources even going so far"...
the source referenced are:

The Japan Economic Journal

Yeah, sure.

if this was in las vegas it would be worse, what a waste of space it would be in such a cool city, it would be an insult to america especially las vegas where revolutions in architecture are necessary to survive in that economy, this building is good for nothing but target practice, perhaps a ballistic missile?, maybe they can try their nukes on it, NEXT TEST SITE

I was pointing at the construction time. They started building this thing more than 20 years ago en it is still not finished. That's a really long time you know. Of course the construction was halted for many years but still. So far the only building I know that has a longer construction time (and will be staying under construction for many years) is the Sagrada Família in Barcelona.

But that was because of the fact that the architect Antoni Gaudi died and had left no plans of the further construction at all. Architects have to analyze every single piece of the Sagrada Familia so they can continue building it how Antoni Gaudi had wanted it to be.

Actually he left plans and a scale model of the building, all destroyed during the Spanish Civil War

Actually many cathedrals thing much longer than this to be completed (not saying this is a cathedral but...). For example National Cathedral in Washington, DC start construction in 1907 and wasn't finished until 1990 (83 years).

Who knows the WTC site in New York city may also be under construction that long the way things are going!
