So will the restaurant at the top be able to rotate? How does that works with elevators etc.

The exterior walls and the core won't move, but the floors will. They'll be in a sort of ring shape

Where you got that info from? I was always doubtful about the rotating restaurant thingy since indeed it doesn't look from the outside as the round floors can rotate, so I would love to see more info about the inner ring theory.

Wasn't that how revolving floors worked? The floors were in a ring shape, and some mechanism rotated them from the core, or from under them?
Maybe just the inner half of the floors will rotate, not sure...
To me, it wouldn't matter if they rotated or not.

You right. I googled one place that I know of having revolving restaurant. And indeed it might be done like you said

Seattle Skyneedle rotating:

Of course that still is no confirmation that such revolving floors will be present at ryugyong.

Didn't we heard that the initially planned rotating restaurants wouldn't be made functional? .... and yes, the floors rotate around the core, but I don't remember if the facade rotates alongside or not. Haven't been in one in years.

Anyone that havn't see a rotating restaurant should find some time and check one out.

A rotating restaurant is no where near as crazy as Dubai's proposed rotating tower.

I don't believe the facade of this building will rotate.

The facade isn't rotating, it'll stay still. It looks connected to the rest of the building.
I remember when I went in the CN Tower as a kid, there was a rotating restaurant, but I don't remember if it was working or not. I think it worked in the same way as the sky-needle...

In Berlin, the restaurant at the Fernsehturm rotates as a separate module (meaning: the windows' position change in relate to your sit in the table).

===================

Now a question: is there some information about asbestos on this tower? It might be the least resistance path to get it down or vacated if/when the Koreas are reunited and modern health standards are put in place, depending on how much asbestos (if any) is there. I once read about how Cuba uses lead paint and other toxic materials long abolished elsewhere in the World, but I'm not sure about North Korea.

No one knows any of those details, but we cannot assume the worst possible scenario for the sheer location. Kempinski, a high quality German-based hotel chain, is responsible for fitting out their floors, and such a prestigious business would not want toxic floors.

Wasn't the tower just a bare concrete shell to have got any asbestos on it (which is a fireproofing material)?

So, if there is any, is Orascom who have put it ..... which I doubt.

Anyway, if any building containing asbestos has to be demolished, shouldn't they demolish half Manhatan? Asbestos has been used for fireproofing in construction for many decades, if not a century.

Asbestos is only dangerous when disturbed....creating airborne particles which people breathe in.
The last thing you want to do with contaminated buildings is demolish them, you remove the asbestos first, usually done at great cost by specialist contractors.

North Korea is crazy for revolving restaurants. I stayed at the Yanggakdo Hotel in Pyongyang last year. There is a revolving restaurant at the top of that hotel (along with at a couple of others in Pyongyang and in rural North Korea). As stated the 'floor' doesn't rotate but a platform (on which tables etc) rotates on rollers around the building. Guests step up onto the rotating floor from the actual floor.

Exactly, Revolving restaurant isn't rocket science, just a circular raised floor, the most important thing is there are no supporting columns, no water or gas (ie: no kitchens, bars and bathrooms)

Revolving restaurant usually only have 10 or so meter wide (maybe 2-3 rows of tables) , so no guest will be too far from the edge, what is the use of in a revolving restaurant if you are too far to see the views.

That's what I was thinking, for this building, at least.
(even so, North koreans apparently have success with rocket science now, as well. If they built a dam, and a satellite, they can build a revolving floor)
